This image means a lot to me. It’s the first one of season 11. I still remember the day I got the call “You’re the new full-time unit stills photographer for The Walking Dead’s
@thewalkingdead @amcthewalkingdead final season.”
Safe to say, I nearly dropped my camera.
It was the start of COVID, and production had just shifted from shooting on film to going fully digital. I came in for those extra Season 10.5 episodes — Here’s Negan, Splinter, and Ross & Seth’s legendary side quest — when the whole team was figuring out how to shoot the next season safely and efficiently.
AMC
@amc_tv put a lot of trust in me, letting me decide what would best serve the show. And I’ll be honest… there were plenty of last-minute “Josh, we need this shot now” moments. But I gave it everything, nailed it every time, and got the shot — even in the middle of Georgia heat, thunderstorms, and the occasional zombie lurking over my shoulder.
The cast and crew? Legends. We became like brothers and sisters out there — through the chaos, the masks, the face shields, and the long hours. I’ll always be grateful for the talent, grit, and laughs we all shared. And I still run into some of them on sets now… and hopefully even more soon.
It was hard work, no doubt. But I loved every bloody minute of it.
