The body is not a fixed form. It is something we carry, reshape, and return to. Through repetition, structure, and quiet material gestures, Filwa Nazer @fillimore explores the body as a site of memory, sensation, and spatial awareness. Her practice moves between the intimate and the spatial, where form becomes a language for what cannot always be articulated. In The Housed Body, the idea of “home” expands beyond the physical, becoming a psychological and emotional terrain—a space we inhabit, reconstruct, and remember. This is not work that seeks immediacy. It asks for stillness, attention, and presence. ARTWORK FOCUS | Filwa Nazer : The Housed Body Shifting Patterns, 2025 Cotton thread on spongiprene fabric (poly jersey + Nylon core), green polyethylene netting, Nylon Tulle Untitled 1: 172h x 151w cm Untitled 2: 173h x 165w cm Untitled 3: 114.5h x 49.5w cm “Shifting Patterns is part of Filwa Nazer’s latest exhibition The Housed Body, where she moves between diagrammed surfaces and three-dimensional forms. The work shifts between the visuals of representation and the viscerality of corporality, drawing viewers further into these unsettled negotiations. In this work, Nazer expands her practice further into embodied space. Suspended from the ceiling, these forms may echo some of her previous sculptural installations; however, they mark a distinctly more uncanny feeling. These suspended pieces twirl and stretch, their combinations of materials suggesting both comfort and protection while straddling disfigurement.   Compositionally, the piece is constructed from pink padded fabric supported by green polyethylene netting. This material pairing gives the work its movement and for: the green netting, commonly used on construction sites, offers both structural support and symbolic meaning. For Nazer, it signifies protection, transition, and the unfinished. It is a language of something in flux, under construction, and in process.“ Excerpt of text written by Racha Khemiri On view through 6 November 2025. 📍5 Cromwell Place, London, SW7 2JE 2nd floor Tuesday–Friday, 12–6 PM Saturday, 12–4 PM Closed Sunday & Monday.

Inspired by ancient Bedouin beliefs that spirits live within the desert, the Artist Filwa Nazer transforms myth into form through her installation Preserving Shadows. The Artwork — shaped like a black serpent made of layered steel mesh — reflects fear, transformation, and the unknown. As visitors walk through its narrow path, they move from darkness into light, symbolizing renewal and rebirth. A powerful reflection on how nature, myth, and emotion intertwine in the vast silence of AlUla’s desert. تأمل في الصحراء حيث تلتقي الطبيعة بالأسطورة والمشاعر @constantart__ @constantineksa @fillimore “Preserving Shadows” DesertX AlUla 2024 Photos by: @lance.gerber #desertx #DXALULA24 #dx2024

ON VIEW I Filwa Nazer: The Housed Body "Here, both clothing and architecture are rendered in their blueprinted forms and annotated in her visual language of motifs, materials, and colours. Sewing patterns and floorplans, shapes often taken directly from clothes that no longer fit and homes once inhabited or spaces being planned for, are abstracted into lines and layered geometric forms, then transmuted through different textures, colours, and thread onto Nazer’s chosen medium. These forms intersect, rotate, and press uneasily against one another, revealing the discomfort of fitting in, growing out of, and of navigating changing spaces, roles, and bodies. " Excerpt of text written by Rotana Shaker On view through 6 November 2025 📍5 Cromwell Place, London, SW7 2JE 2nd floor Opening hours: Tuesday–Friday, 12–6 PM Saturday, 12–4 PM Closed Sunday & Monday.

UPCOMING EXHIBITION | Filwa Nazer — THE HOUSED BODY OPENING FRIDAY 10TH OCTOBER 2025 AT 6PM @thelavery , Wing Gallery 5 Cromwell Place, London In The Housed Body, Filwa Nazer presents a new body of work that extends her ongoing inquiry into transition, alienation, and the body in space. At the core of this exhibition is a personally significant stage of transition in the artist’s life. Through embroidered and stitched fabric, sculptural textiles, and suspended forms, Nazer navigates the ever-shifting relationship between the body and the spaces that attempt to contain it, both sartorial and architectural. Whether hung flat against a wall or twisting in space, these works stage encounters of tension, awkwardness, and at times, estrangement. Here, both clothing and architecture are rendered in their blueprinted forms and annotated in her visual language of motifs, materials, and colours. Join us as Abigail Bernal, Associate Curator of Asian Art, QAGOMA, introduces us to an extraordinary installation by Triennial artist Filwar Nazer. 'Five Women' 2021 embodies the tension between private and public identities, capturing a moment of transition in Saudi Arabian society through the sculptural arrangement of materials. Nazer, who studied fashion and design, applies the conceptual and technical skills of patterning – and the complementary processes of creation and deconstruction – to reflect the diverse stories of the five women. A must-see. Experience this stunning work on display now at the Triennial – free entry. #TriennialQAGOMA @fillimore
