COUCH the play, staged reading Thurs, April 30 at The Elysian in LA.
A dark comedy about a girl who likes to eat her couch and the upholsterer who loves to feed her.
All proceeds from ticket sales donated to LA Regional Food Bank. Ticket link in bio 🤍
A staged reading of the new play by Jessica Garrison - a dark comedy about a girl who eats her couch, and the upholsterer who loves to feed her. Raina, who has just about given up on civilized society and turned to her couch to satiate all her human needs, implores Maxim, a loyal and obsessive aficionado of high density foam, to give her one last fix.
Jessica Garrison is a writer/director based in NYC and LA. She started writing for the stage as a founding member of theater company, Public Assembly, where an abridged version of Couch was first developed and produced. She has since moved to New York where it was excerpted and debuted in her Off Broadway trilogy called Weird But Okay.
This brand new full-length iteration of Couch will be read for the first time by actors, Fabianne Therese (Dolly, John Dies at the End) and Steve Little (Eastbound & Down), with stage directions by Nic Murphy, and directed by Jessica Garrison, produced by Frank Mosley (Freeland, OBEX).
This is the fourth in a series of staged readings by the Los Angeles based collective REQUIRED READING. Proceeds from this performance at The Elysian Theater will go toward Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, fighting hunger since 1973 by providing food, school lunches, and resources to communities facing food insecurity. Their mission - no one goes hungry in Los Angeles.

Really feeling the (lamp!) light after last night. In awe of @me_betseybrown and @ianedlund , you’re perfect and gifted and I loved every second of working with you, and thank you to @reunion for bringing us all together and allowing me to transmute some of my most unbearable feelings into the best ones. 💛💛
Appreciation post for the LA-based theater company that changed my whole life, @thepublicassembly ! This company is where I wrote my very first play, where I’ve met friends and collaborators for life. It has made me a better writer, director, probably a better person, and the perfect little avenue to explore all my most deranged thoughts and desires. They produce free theater shows every month in Los Angeles and are right now doing their very first fundraising drive because (shocker) theater companies need money!! Please consider donating (it’s tax deductible!) - or if you’re in LA, grab seats to the gala that I’m sure is going to be a night to remember. Public Assembly I love you so deeply XXX
