A great feature in @architectsjournal today of our Cedar Barn project, East Anglia. The project replaces three original barn buildings, with new volumes that are re-orientated to take advantage of the views towards the estuary. Using a carefully selected palette of materials, the project interiors reflect the surrounding agricultural vernacular and the previous use of the site, with exposed structure offset against softer timbers in cedar, douglas fir and cork. More picture to follow soon. . . . . Photos @frenchandtye Fitted Joinery @timgaudin #home #barn #cedar #interiordesign #joinery

A detail design study for sensitive adaptations to an arts and crafts home in West London. Taking inspiration from the existing features and materials of the home, our design uses large timber posts to open up the facade and support a concealed gutter and glazing system behind. Traditional clay tiles wrap down from the roof above to form solid peers and anchor the corners of the extension. . . . . #home #artsandcrafts #clay #detaileddesign #homerenovation

Images and diagrams of our Home for Huxley, due to start on site this spring. Huxley is non-verbal and communicates using eye gaze technology, selecting objects on a screen with his eyes. For his therapy room, we transformed the vaulted ceiling into an interactive sensory canvas, where the colours, light, and cues he chooses are projected above him. A suspended light ring, carefully developed with @lightingbystrom , will illuminate the space above and below.   . . . . #home #garden #sensory #inclusivedesign #extension

The plan arrangement for Wishing Well, Jersey, was developed around a central spine wall to orientate the home towards the land and sea. This creates continuous views through the building and reinforces a strong connection to the surroundings. The staircase details and exposed SRE wall became an important focal point within the home, as part of the overal concept and the interior design approach.  . . . . Sunrise on our recently completed project in Jersey, showcasing the dining room pavilion on the first floor.  Wishing Well is located on St Ouen’s bay, a natural oak pavilion was carefully designed to open out to panoramic views across the surrounding Coastal National Park. Positioning the pavilion against the central spine wall of the home allowed the SRE construction to be exposed internally.   . . . . Photos @frenchandtye #beach #pavilion #sunrise #interiors #jersey

Interiors details with our Studio House project, North London. Bespoke joinery is integral to our design process and our approach to the interiors. Across these examples, a consistent design language is carried through with the use of materials and details, creating continuity between the old and the new parts of the home. . . . . Planning approved for a special project in our studio, and one we’ve been excited to share. A new extension designed for Huxley, a 9-year-old boy with quadriplegic cerebral palsy. The architecture is shaped around the care requirements, surrounding nature and sensory experience. Two vaulted roof forms take cues from the Arts & Crafts roofscape of the existing home, while supporting natural stack ventilation, controlling solar gain and creating an interactive sensory space internally. Huxley is non-verbal and communicates using Eye Gaze screen technology. Inside the therapy room, the vaulted ceiling becomes an interactive sensory surface, allowing colours, light and cues that he selects on the screen to be projected onto the ceiling. The architecture becomes an interactive tool for communication, therapy and development. The plan is organised around a spine wall, providing storage and privacy, while opening key spaces onto a sensory garden. A fully concealed hoist track enables seamless movement throughout, ensuring the space supports both independence and care. . . . . @constant_sd @lightingbystrom @huxleyjamesowen #home #garden #sensory #inclusivedesign #extension

Interior stair details on our recently completed project in Jersey. Bringing the external stonework inside, the staircase explores a range of textures, combining polished and flamed surfaces alongside an exposed section of the rammed earth wall internally. Large marine fossils are revealed in the stone surface reinforcing the home’s connection to the land and sea. . . . . Photo @frenchandtye #stone #stairs #fossil #home #beach

Shaping the materials of this stair into the surrounding surfaces created soft curves and a gentle descent from the living space above to a garden studio below. The stair was sculpted in clay and completed with oak and aged brass details, landing on a concrete plinth. . . . . Photo @landers_photos #home #sculpture #stair #clayworks #homerenovation
