This piece is inspired by Cape Verdean poetry, spirituality, and the state of the world today. Growing up at the very start of the transition from offline to online life, I witnessed how our society and our state of mind have changed. The idea that experiences like saudade or love now have to compete with constant entertainment is what prompted this work.

A @_movartgallery inaugurou um novo espaço em Lisboa com duas exposições que marcam o início de uma nova temporada dedicada à arte contemporânea africana e da diáspora. Coisas do Coração e Não Coisas, de @fidelevora , e Fragment from an Invisible Masculinity, de @jules_bekuti são propostas visuais que exploram temas como memória, identidade e representação, com abordagens profundamente sensíveis.
Com estas exposições, a MOVART reforça o seu compromisso com a promoção de discursos artísticos africanos e lusófonos, num novo espaço que convida à reflexão, ao encontro e à descoberta. As duas exposições vão estar patentes até ao dia 22 de novembro de 2025.

What a night!!
Thank you to everyone who came yesterday — it meant the world to us. The opening at MOVART was more than just an event; it was the beginning of a new chapter after such a long and beautiful journey.
We were proud to open with two powerful solo exhibitions by @fidelevora and @jules_bekuti , alongside a special group show celebrating selected artists who have been part of MOVART’s story over the past 10 years.
Sharing this moment with all of you — artists, friends, and everyone who’s grown with us — was truly unforgettable.

MOVART is proud to inaugurate our new space with the solo exhibition Coisas do Coração e Não Coisas by @fidelevora (curated by João Silvério @emptycube_reader ).
Fidel has been part of our journey since 2021, and now he presents a new body of work that reimagines cinema, archives, and digital imagery through screen printing and painting—turning memory into transformation.
As Évora states: “My artistic expression reflects the way a landscapist portrays his surrounding environment.”
This environment is both digital and physical, reconfigured into a cosmology where image, sound, and memory interlace.

On the same evening, we also open @jules_bekuti first solo exhibition in Portugal.

The Narrating-self, experience self & the Algorithm
We as individuals are divided between these two voices, the narrating-self and the experience-self. A good analogy between these two voices is our perception of suffering and pain, craving and hunger. (Neuro-marketers have evolved and learned to manipulate our senses.) For the longest time, these two voices have been coexisting, shaping what we consider the ‘I’.
