The fete sign is its own thing.
With the fete sign exhibition, the goal was simply to see what that might look like, how that would work.
It took the form of a ‘fete sign residency’ where sign artist Bruce Cayonne, spent a month making and talking signs with the @aliceyardinsta network at Granderson Lab and the Belmont community. Alice Yard’s relationship with @iamthesignman spans over a decade — since Galvanise days. His sign practice has informed and contributed a lot to how we collaborate in the yard.
One of the post-show ideas that came out was to think about a moving show. A way to both expand and contract a poster show. Something that builds on the roadside nature of the sign but situates it indoors/outdoors as needed.
These are some initial concept sketches that will guide our next steps. Like its defiant nature in making space for event/poster art, the fete sign is its own mas solution.
