🐾 Meet the "Boys of Beaumont"! 🐾 We are so excited to introduce our latest Pixie’s Pen Pals crew! On April 15th, these four handsome fellas transferred from @goochland_pet_lovers / @goochlandanimalshelter into our program. After a quick wellness check with our incredible partners at @hanovergreenvet , they moved into Beaumont Correctional Center to begin their training! 🎓🐕 They are now one month into the program and officially looking for their forever homes. Despite my size I really am a gentle, loving guy. I love attention and one of my favorite things to do is play. Whether it's scouting around during off leash time, or getting to stretch my legs during a leashed walk, I love taking in the fresh air! I love toys and have no problem sharing them with any eager playmate. I'll make a great addition to any family! 🎓Cisco I’m about 1 year old. I’m very mild mannered, quiet, and already potty trained. I can be fearful of new people, but I have some very dedicated guys to help me overcome my fears and build my confidence so I can become my best self. I really thrive in the company of my other dogs- that's when i'm happiest and I have great play skills. My ideal adopters would live in a calm home, have a bit of patience for me, and perhaps another dog for me to play with. 🎓Pablo I'm 9 months old. I'm very sweet and affectionate, and already have great house manners. I'm very curious and like to check things out. I will greet and meet almost everyone, but I can be a little shy at first. I'm very smart and eager to learn. I play with all the other dogs here, love my toys. have lots of energy, and love to be outside! 🎓Rocky I’m an 8 year old beagle with plenty of spunk and sweetness and a burning desire for yummy treats, so I should learn my new skills very quickly. I’m friendly with other dogs and I love every person I meet. I’ve been through heartworm treatment and recently had some benign lumps removed, so I’m looking forward to some loving and good times while in the program.

Yesterday was a major milestone for 2025 Companions in Crisis grant recipient, Bowie! 🐾 He officially finished his sixth round of chemotherapy following a devastating osteosarcoma diagnosis. 🎗️ In October 2025, Bowie—a dedicated therapy dog at @nkesotters —slipped twice on the playground. His mom, Therese, knew it was more than just a trip. After a referral to @virginiaveterinarycenters , their fears were confirmed. 💔 Facing the impossible costs of treatment as a single mom and educator, Therese turned to FETCH a Cure. 🩺✨ "My heart breaks because I am a single mom, public educator, so treatment costs honestly feel impossible. However, Bowie is more than just a family dog now - he's one of our most beloved staff members at NKES and I truly believe he is here to teach us all something and leave us better than he found us." With the support of a Companions in Crisis grant, Bowie’s "village" went to work: Amputation with @james_river_vetsurg 🏥 6 Rounds of Chemo at @virginiaveterinarycenters 🧪 Yale Vaccine Immunotherapy Trial at @pvescrva 💉 Most importantly, this community effort gave Bowie more time with his family and his school. After a week of reflection, we are still so in awe of the outpouring of support that we saw at FETCH Fest 2026! We owe a special thank you to our FETCH Fest presenting sponsor, @holidaybarnpetresorts for making this all possible. Their continued dedication to and support of our mission has enabled us to help countless families in the DMV. We’re sending many thanks and congratulations to our incredible top fundraisers this year, Samantha Fulford, PAWS FOR SASHA, and TOS RVA for your immense efforts to help pets in need! We not only met our fundraising goal, raising over $40,000 that will allow us to provide assistance to so many more families and pets, but were able to share so many incredible opportunities with attendees. At the Wellness Zones, attendees had access to over $1,600 of vet exams, all for free. We heard from owners who came to FETCH Fest specifically to get care that would otherwise be inaccessible to them due to the high cost. We loved seeing pets and owners learn and try new things in the dog zone. @anibertotdogtraining challenged pet owners to see training from their dog’s perspective and helped build deeper connections between dog and owner. @zoomroom_richmond gave pups a chance to channel all of their FETCH Fest excitement into their agility course and learn some new tricks. We are so appreciative to everyone who made this huge success possible and are eager to see all the ways that we can work together to continue to help more companion animals in our community! ❤️WALTER LIVES ON❤️ Many of Walter the Weather Dog's adoring fans have inquired about CBS 6's plans to honor him after the beloved yellow lab crossed the Rainbow Bridge last August. We're happy to announce that we now have an answer.

Many of @waltertheweatherdog 's adoring fans have inquired about CBS 6's plans to honor him after the beloved yellow lab crossed the Rainbow Bridge last August. We're happy to announce that we now have an answer. @zachdanielwx wanted Walter's memorial to help others in the community while also keeping his presence alive in the CBS 6 Weather Garden. That led him to FETCH a Cure, a Richmond-based nonprofit that works with dogs and cats fighting cancer. FETCH a Cure's biggest fundraiser is Steel Dogs helping Real Dogs. Businesses, veterinary practices and community members sponsor the sculptures each year. Area artists then transform the steel dogs into community works of art that raise awareness of pet cancer. A steel dog painted in Walter's honor now sits proudly in the CBS 6 Weather Garden, painted by the one and only Tucker Adamson, illustrator of Walter's two children's books: "Walter and the Terrible Twister" and "Walter and the Horrible Hurricane."
