If you were affected by the March Kona Low flooding and applied for FEMA assistance, you may receive a visit from one of our inspectors. These home visits are meant to assess and document damages that may help residents qualify for financial assistance. Inspectors will carry their official ID and never ask for money or bank details.
After Super Typhoon Sinlaku left communities across the CNMI without power and water, FEMA worked with the @USnavy to move critical supplies quickly from Guam to Saipan and Tinian. With damaged ports, rough seas and urgent needs on the ground, the Navy’s Landing Craft Air Cushions helped transport generators, fuel tanks, vehicles and other heavy cargo that could not move by helicopter.
This coordination helped get critical resources closer to the communities that needed them most and supported ongoing response and recovery efforts across the islands.
An American flag recovered from debris after Helene became a symbol of the Chimney Rock Volunteer Fire Department's dedication & service. @SecretaryMullin recently honored their work & reaffirmed his commitment to speeding up North Carolina's recovery. Read more on our blog at FEMA.gov/blog.
Recently, some survivors in CNMI safely weathered Typhoon Sinlaku in sturdy homes provided by FEMA’s Permanent Housing Construction program. After Typhoon Yutu hit Saipan in 2018, FEMA, @USACEHQ & local partners helped families build stronger and more resilient homes.
FEMA is awarding $59 million to buy out more than 150 flood-damaged properties in Buncombe, Haywood, Mitchell, and Madison counties, North Carolina. Since @SecretaryMullin took office, FEMA has funded over 300 property buyouts, helping families recover from Hurricane Helene and strengthening communities against future disasters.

Last weekend, over 3,000 family members, fire service members, and volunteers gathered at the National Emergency Training Center for the 45th annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial. We paused to honor the men and women who gave their lives protecting our communities, airports, and natural resources.
During this year’s ceremony at the National Fire Academy, we remembered 97 firefighters who died in 2025 and 107 from previous years. The memorial also marked the 25th anniversary of September 11th, honoring those lost during the response and from 9/11-related illness and injury. The Memorial is our commitment to never forget our fallen.
"Their generosity of spirit, bravery and kindness inspire each of us to live by their example." —U.S. Fire Administrator Paul Matheis

One of the biggest challenges in the immediate aftermath of Typhoon Sinlaku was getting access to clean drinking water. In the days after the typhoon hit, FEMA and fed partners like @deptofwar were able to set up a reverse osmosis water purification unit to produce safe, clean drinking water for the community in Saipan.
Today on International Firefighters Day, we highlight the dedication of the U.S. Fire Administration and firefighters across the nation. FEMA and USFA are committed to empowering our firefighters with the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to protect our communities for generations to come.
