Children from Holy Child P.S. have been getting creative, producing artwork inspired by the heroes in their own lives 🎨 More than 50 pieces have come together as part of the ‘Local Heroes’ project - now proudly on display in the school playground on Central Drive, celebrating the everyday people who mean the most to them. The project is part of Féile’s Inspire programme, supported by The Executive Office’s Communities In Transition initiative.

Young voices from Our Shared Roots took to the airwaves this week on BBC Radio Ulster's Your Place and Mine programme 📻 Children from St Eugene's PS joined storyteller Peter Heaney and Féile’s Eibhlín Morrison for a chat with presenter Eve Blair to share their experiences of the project. Our Shared Roots brought together children from Nazareth House PS, Fountain PS, St Eugene's PS, Long Tower PS and Gaelscoil Éadain Mhóir, working with Peter Heaney and artist Sinéad Crumlish to explore the story of the oak tree in Derry’s history - from local myths, legends and its links with Colmcille. Each child made their own oak leaf during the workshops, and they’re now all part of a larger piece on display at Áras Cholmcille – St Columba Heritage Centre. Listen here from 23.50 onwards: /sounds/play/m002vkhl

Waiting for a bus? 🚌 Take a moment to check out the beautiful bird portraits 🐦 brightening up bus stops across Creggan, thanks to the latest collaboration between Féile and @_peaball Unsightly graffiti has been replaced with stunning artwork by the brilliant Derry street art collective, helping bring walls and public spaces across the neighbourhood to life. The artworks can be found on Iniscarn Road and Eastway Road. Part of Féile’s Graffiti on the Walls project, supported by The Executive Office’s Communities in Transition programme.

The Oak tree I loved getting stuck into this @feilederry project from concept to instalation. I visited 5 schools from the Triax area. Talking to the kids about the orgin of our city and the might Oak. We learned about the myths and legends and children made their own bespoke Oak leaf with a wish on the back. Ive attached all the leaves to the tree following the tradition that, paper tied to an Oak will make your wish come true. The Tree is still on display at St Columbas heritage centre at Longtower. A few of the leaves have flown off. The wishes must be coming true 🌟✨️ #derry #irishmythology #oaktree #ireland #irishlegend

A brilliant day in Belfast with young people from Bishop Street Youth Club and Newbuildings Youth Club, who travelled to the city for a street art tour and museum visit. The group took part in a guided street art tour of Belfast City Centre with Seedhead Arts, where they explored a range of murals and learned more about the ideas and stories behind them. They then visited the Ulster Museum, spending time going round the exhibits together. Supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body, creating opportunities for young people to come together, share experiences and see new perspectives.

For over five decades, St Mary’s Scouts in Creggan have been run by dedicated volunteers, giving young people the chance to get outdoors, learn new skills and become leaders of tomorrow. Generations have come through the group, building friendships, taking on new challenges and developing skills that have stayed with them for life. That story is now captured in a striking new mural by Féile and Peaball at the Scout Hall on Cromore Gardens, featuring the Scouting Ireland emblem, outdoor adventure scenes and the traditional colours of St Mary’s Scouts. Part of Féile’s Graffiti on the Walls initiative, supported by the Executive Office’s Communities in Transition project.

Over 60 children from local schools took part in Féile's Easter Hop - a 1km Easter egg hunt along the banks of the River Foyle 🐣 Children from Nazareth House PS, St Eugene's PS, Long Tower PS and Gaelscoil Éadain Mhóir got involved in outdoor team-building activities led by Far and Wild, before being split into mixed-school teams working together along the route to find hidden Easter eggs. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet kids from other schools, build new friendships and have fun! Thanks to @bbhealthforum for supporting us with the Easter Hop, and @ballymoorfc for the use of their new facilities. The Easter Hop is part of Féile’s Connect:Interact:Create Programme, funded by The Executive Office’s Central Good Relations Fund.

Over 100 young people from St. Joseph’s Boys’ School took part in a lively and inspiring Careers Day, meeting people from a wide range of backgrounds and areas of work. The students heard directly from those working in football and fitness, social work, youth and community work, hairdressing, music, technology, and the food industry. The session encouraged them to think about their own interests, skills and future ambitions, while hearing amazing first-hand information about the different pathways and opportunities open to them in the future. Careers Day is part of Féile’s Raising Aspirations in Children and Young People programme, funded by the Executive Office’s Communities in Transition project.
