Unu Api Api Independence Day. Today wi dey celebrate 65years of independence. This year I wanted to reflect on what independence and mama Salone meant to me as your favourite hot gyal historian. For me being Sierra Leonean family has been the foundation of who I am , but family has become more than just it’s generic form it has showed itself in many ways. Fambul- The 🇸🇱Krio term for ‘Family’ from the Jamaican 🇯🇲 pronunciation of Family- Fambly My biological family I love you forever word to my viens. But now to my community I have been blessed to have found Fambul in my peoples @young_salone Young Salone have supported my dreams , pushed me in doors and connected me to many people . Today we were surprised to find out we would be acknowledged for our work in the community at the Sierra Leone independence Celebration at Camden Town hall. Now to our Fambul in the diaspora and as the historian I am today was also a moment in history. Black British history, and Sierra Leonean history. Literally in our life time the first mayor of African decent in Camden is also Sierra Leonean. @eddiehanson88 An individual who supports our community, his borough, and so many other organisations with his time, politeness and charisma truly serving his community throughout boroughs . Today he invited the community to celebrate our independence and celebrate the community service of us in the diaspora .This was also the first time our independence has been celebrated at the town hall another one for the history books. Mayor Hansons story was also spoken of and truly left the younger generations inspired . We gave him his flowers today because when we talk about role models he definitely checks my list , happy to serve and always with a smile. This independence leh wi love wi sef , let us find Fambul wherever we find ourselves and support wi sef. Land that we love🇸🇱

🎉34 in the city of love 🇫🇷 . Starting the year loving me a little harder and being more intentional about giving my love to myself and of course my family. Birthday blues tried me but the devil is a liar. I am thankful for life , health and many other things too . If you’re in my personal circle, you will know there is a present I have been hoping for some time but it hasn’t arrived yet but it will come, God will definitely do it. My personal people know wagwan and I believe the prayers will be answered. This year I am loving me more, being around my family more , treating myself like the princess I am - side note I am actually one from Sandoh Chiefdom Sierra Leone . Do you know what 10 years of grief can do? A whole lot and I don’t wish it on anyone this year we are getting back all the joy that was lost .So here’s to getting back what was for us ,focusing on joy and making memories with the people I love ❤️. Also please lock in here with me there are some projects dropping asap. #selfcarenurse #historian #femaleleadership #mentalhealth #healing

For many decades women have fought for our places in many rooms and institutions around the world. For equal representation in politics and leadership for issues concerning us to be taken seriously. This Saturday @5050groupuk have their meet and greet to inspire and inform women on how we are can work together to support women into getting into leadership roles and politics, as well as learning from women who have done so. A big urge to the younger women in our communities who want to challenge the narrative and be in those rooms needing change. Hope to see you there! #sierraleone🇸🇱 #womeninpolitics #womeninleadershiproles
