OPENING 5-9PM SAT FEB 7: “Permission to Breathe: A Black Woman’s Perspective on Living Life Unapologetically,” curated by Artists Ebony Iman Dallas, Elizabeth Feahther Henley, and Jaiden Jiji McClellan. MEET CURATOR + ARTIST ELIZABETH FEAHTHER HENLEY: Elizabeth Henley is a painter, multimedia artist, and social practitioner from Tulsa, OK. While living and working in Tulsa, she attended several schools including studying Interior Design at Oklahoma State University, but never finished with a degree. After taking color theory and art classes, she realized her main passion was creating work through visual art. She began displaying art publicly in 2015 with a focus on portraiture and incorporating elements of afro-futurism into her pieces. Her art journeys through themes of self exploration and preservation, identity, strength, trauma, spirituality, and solitude as they relate directly to her experience of growing up as a Black woman in present day Oklahoma. In 2017, she redirected her artistic pursuits to finding space in her local art scene for Black Artists in the Tulsa area. This desire for inclusion and diversity in art led her to found and create Black Moon in 2018, an all Black artist collective in Tulsa focused on breaking standards, pushing innovation, and cultivating creativity among her local community. With the formation of Black Moon, Elizabeth and fellow artists have shown in galleries and museums throughout the Oklahoma area, and created work that has been included in national news publications. Her goal is to become a successful and well established artist, and promote Black Moon as a beneficial resource for artists in her area. @feahther Image 2: “Enlightened Mind” by Elizabeth Feahther Henley Acrylic on paper “Permission to Breathe: A Black Woman’s Perspective on Living Life Unapologetically” Curated by Artists Ebony Iman Dallas + Elizabeth Feahther Henley + Jaiden Jiji McClellan OPENING: 5-9pm, Saturday, February 7 THRU Sat, Feb 28 Gallery hours during the exhibit: TH 6-8pm FR 5-8pm SA 12-5pm + BY APPT Contact: Nicole Finley, Director - Positive Space Tulsa @nic.finley [email protected]

Missed Connections was an absolute blast! If you can make networking fun and less anxiety-inducing, I’m down for it. I created pieces based on a theme @apache_thunderwof_18 and I discussed about his podcast (of the same name) and the interconnectedness that we’re trying to build through community. Thus the eight connected pieces with a spider-resin insert, the custom marquee for Chaz for being the hostess with the mostest (which I’m now taking commissions for if you need a custom sign), and the spider 🕷️ install with moveable arms (that I would love to streamline into a sleek, standing light fixture - if any designer or architect friends want to collaborate 😉). I am so grateful that art can be used as a channel to get to know people, and I met so many cool folks at this event Big thanks to Adam and crew at @mixedusetulsa The @tulsacreativeengine team @apache_thunderwof_18 for the vision and @nosamyrag for the tunes and assistance with the install! The photo cred towards the end with myself and Rogelio belongs to 📸 @sethshootsfilm Shout out if you were there and get the last image reference 👕 😅 #art #artist #installation #artinstallation #spider #community #creative #collaboration

Earlier this month I was given the opportunity to get creative with Boley, OK’s/ @project2020foundation Trash to Treasure project. The bins will be featured on the rodeo grounds during the Boley Rodeo May 24th. I arrived early and finished late, met some amazingly talented artists, ate some good food ( @thefooddudeokc ), took a break by giving in to my inner child, watched a tractor pull a car out the mud then rode on a tractor for the first time (thanks to @karenlynnekuban )! I made it just in time to collapse at home with the cats. I was also the only artist from Tulsa and felt so big city coming back home 😅 It was definitely an experience I’ll never forget in a town with an unforgettable history that needs to be told, especially into the narrative of what it means to be Black Oklahomans. More on that and the inspiration for my design later. Also big shout out to @wesleyluster.art , art projector lead, coordinator, and facilitator. I hope I see y’all out in Boley for the rodeo 🤠 #art #creative #history #blackhistory #oklahoma #boley #boleyrodeo
