Abishai Choragudi (FD UG ’19), an alum from the Bachelor of Design (BDes) Program, has been awarded a fully funded Erasmus Mundus Joint Master scholarship for the Response_Able Futures program, commencing in September 2026.
Supported by the European Union, the two-year program in design and healthcare is delivered across institutions, including LUCA School of Arts, with mobility across Belgium, Portugal, and the UK. His selection builds on his training in product design at CEPT University and his professional experience at Casegoods.

𝗖𝗘𝗣𝗧 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀’ 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗩𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗷𝘆𝗮 𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝗜𝗣𝗥 𝗖𝗼𝗽𝘆𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁
Vanijya: The Rise of Commerce, a board game by Sukriti Saraf (FA UG ’23), and Shaili Nagori (FD UG ’23), students from CFP, has been officially registered under IPR (Copyright) by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Government of India.
Guided by faculty Kanishka Suthar, Radha Devpura, and Vibhav Suthar, the game is set in 4th-century BCE Kashi—a thriving trade hub along the Ganges. Players take on the role of merchants, competing to build wealth by acquiring ghats, setting up manufacturing units, and trading luxury goods like Banarasi sarees, jewelry, ivory, and ittar.
With immersive isometric visuals and intricately designed components, the game blends history, strategy, and storytelling. Designed for 2–4 players, each session unfolds over six rounds of competitive trade and decision-making.
A brilliant fusion of culture, design, and gameplay innovation.

What does it take to redesign something as simple as sewing a button?
This student project began with hands-on exploration—sewing over 50 buttons to understand the process and its challenges. Through sketching, mechanism studies, and rapid prototyping, the design evolved into a compact, battery-free machine that stitches a button in just 20 seconds—reducing effort and improving ergonomics.
Developed during the Design of Mechanical Objects studio under tutor Mayur Bhalavi.
At BDes CEPT, students learn by making—testing ideas, building mechanisms, and transforming everyday problems into functional solutions.

Glimpses from the recent studio visit of Plato's User: Pieces of Perspectives to the Kochi-Muziris Biennale 2025 where the students explored the many ways stories and ideas can come to life across the global art scene. They studied how narratives are constructed and presented across different works. This enriching experience offered a broad exposure to diverse artistic practices from around the world.
