Process of Al Bait Baitkom
It began with a door, one that opens to a courtyard where a palm tree stands tall, its dates falling and waiting to be picked. Music plays, hennaed hands create, coffee is poured for the many and the few, and talli is crafted across generations. Above it all, flags are raised high on each pillar, symbolizing pride, strength, and unity.
This is the “Al Bait Baitkom” mural, translating to “This house is your house”, a common Emirati saying that reflects a deep-rooted culture of hospitality. Inspired by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s initiative to raise the UAE flag across homes, the mural carries this spirit forward, weaving together cultural symbols into a broader narrative of identity and belonging.
The piece draws from the old metal doors of the UAE, once adorned with national and cultural symbols. Through a combination of lively and modern style, it brings forward a sense of celebration rooted in history, heritage, and hospitality.

“Where We Gather”
Is a mural inspired by the flourishing old courtyards of the UAE. It highlights the homes and the communities that shaped them, celebrating the courtyard as the
quiet heart of the house an inner space that breathes life into every room. Open to the sky,this shared ground became a place of gathering, storytelling, rest, and connection, where daily life unfolded beneath shifting light and open skies

Open chairs, hot coffee and tea, a platter of sweets and a bit of savory on the side, let hands aged by love pour you a cup, tell you a story surrounded in greenery, and laugh in ways that you never expected.
The installation is a reinterpretation of a Majlis, a center of every Emirati household that comes to life with a knock every Friday. A beating heart that blurs the lines of memory, of lessons, and of conversations. To us, and to many, it was our grandmother who was the center of our Majlis, she brought us warmth in ways that we would not be who we are today without. We called this work “She Wove the Sun into the Heart” because it was her that brought us together, her 19 children that she birthed, and the many grandchildren.
The center of the installation is the mural where two hands stretch offering a cup of Qawha (coffee), a tradition of generosity and the hospitality passed down and symbolized in the center with a peeled cup reveals a palm tree which our grandmother was likened to. In this courtyard, where flowers, palm trees, and a sea of colors become reminders of her, of how she was bold and lived boldly, yet held us and nurtured us in ways only she could.
Surrounding the mural is the majlis made of benches and pillows paired with a bloom of flowers, like a comforting hug growing. We ask you to please rest, take a pot of flower, and share a story. A community to remember those we love and those we lost in the roots of the garden witnessed by the sky.

The River of Memories where anyone of any age can play, relax, have a seat. Here it is a reminder of the how we used to play around with the pillows of the Majlis creating a huge mess but moments to remember. It is also about the conversations that shape us not just as individuals but also as families.

And what of the flowers? The ones whose roots hold onto the ground, with a promise of story about to bloom. What of those stories? Under a shade waiting to hear as the tale begins.
Part of the installation is the flowers given out to each family as a reminders of the roots of the family and the stories that bloom. Connected with the year of family (@uaeyearof ) we wanted to share the moments of which our grandmother used to garden, that now her garden waits evermore for her touch.
