Visited the grave of one of my literary heroes and author of the socialist masterpiece, The Ragged Trousered Philanthropist, Robert Noonan (aka Robert Tressell ), today. Located in Walton Cemetery in Liverpool. During a holiday to South Wales in August 2022, i visited the writing shed and grave of one of my favourite poets, Dylan Thomas. His shed is situated in an absolutely beautiful location so it was easy to see why he chose there. Had a nice little walk up the hill from the Castle car park. His grave is easy to locate in St Martin's Church Yard and I spent a little while there reflecting and remembering some of my favourite poems of his. #dylanthomas #dylanthomaspoetry #dylanthomasboathouse #dylanthomasgrave #laugharne #carmarthenshire #southwales #holidays #holiday #familyholiday #familyholidays #familyholidayuk2022 #familyholidayuk #poet #poetry #poem #poems #welsh #welshpoetsofinstagram #welshpoetry #welshpoetry #welshpoets

Some more @blackcrow_bks appreciation. Thanks so much, I really do appreciate the books you send me. They Fear Not Men In The Woods by @gretchen_mcneil . Can't wait to read this. About the book: When Jen Monroe hears her father's remains have been found, she returns home to disprove his death, only to find the forests of rural Washington are hiding something ancient and dangerous
Seven years ago, Jen Monroe left behind her hometown of Barrow, Washington after her father, a forest ranger passionate about protecting old trees from the aggressive logging business that runs their small town, vanished seemingly into thin air. She vowed never to return...until she gets a text from her estranged mother. Her father's remains have been found. It seems impossible to Jen who has always believed her father is still alive, and she returns home, determined to find out what really happened. When her ex-boyfriend proposes a camping trip into the woods in her father's memory, it feels like the opportunity Jen had been hoping for: to find her father. To find the truth. But what she finds lurking in the forest may be deeper, darker and deadlier than she could have ever imagined. And it has no intention of letting her leave. Unsettling, tense, and atmospheric, this is a feminist suspense novel for those who have always known there’s something hungry waiting in the woods. #fatguyreading #Ad #blackcrowbooks #Bookstagram #gretchenmcneil

BOOK REVIEW Thanks so much to @zooloosbooktours for sending me the copy of Burning Secret by @rjlwriteruk Genre : Thriller / Mystery / Historical Page Count : 370 pages Publisher : Matador Publishing, @matadorpublishers . REVIEW: In 1840's London, Enoch Prince was born into abject poverty, and so In order to drag himself from the gutter, he becomes a bare-knuckle fighter amongst the gloomy, murky underworld. But in order to escape a debt to a ruthless moneylender, he flees to the U.S. Leaving his wife and three young Daughters behind, he arrives in Jacksonville, Florida under a new name, Harry Mason and what follows is rip roaring tale of political intrigue, murder and risky financial dealings. Want to know more? Be sure to pick your copy up to find out. So all in all, I throughly enjoyed this. You really feel as though you've stepped back in time to the 19th century. With the rich, descriptive writing, you really can see the sights, smell the smells and hear the sounds. Along the way, we meet some wonderfully imaginative and interesting characters, all of which, for me, were believable and felt real. 4 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 's from me. #fatguyreading #Bookstagram #Ad #zooloosbooktours

THE FINAL CHAPTER BY C.B. EVERETT IS OUT NOW IN THE UK, 02 JUNE IN US, Simon & Schuster, @simonschusteruk . About the book: A missing author. A lost manuscript. A final chapter that could reveal the truth. Ten years ago, bestselling literary novelist Jonathan Durward vanished without a trace - leaving behind no body, no answers, and no final book. Now that missing manuscript has finally surfaced. But it isn’t the masterpiece anyone expected. It’s a spy novel: pulpy, outlandish, and packed with clichĂ©s, tradecraft and Bond-style twists. Jonathan’s former publisher asks his closest friend, fellow author C. B. Everett, to annotate the novel and separate fact from fiction. But as C. B. reads, he begins to spot unsettling echoes of real people, real events - and perhaps the truth about Jonathan’s disappearance. Because hidden inside this strange, slippery thriller may be a confession. Or a clue. Or a trap. As C.B. is drawn deeper into the mystery, one question becomes impossible to ignore: did Jonathan vanish - or was he written out of the story? Clever, twisty and irresistibly readable, The Final Chapter is a brilliantly meta mystery about friendship, identity and the stories we tell ourselves - perfect for fans of Anthony Horowitz and Janice Hallett. #fatguyreading #Ad #Bookstagram #blackcrowpr

Thanks so much to @bantambooksuk for sending me the copy of They Can't Burn Us All by @cathryn_kemp . Looking forward to reading this. About the book: From the award-winning author of A Poisoner's Tale comes a dark, feminist retelling of the most famous witch trial in 17th-century Iceland, perfect for fans of The Witches of Vardo and The Mercies Westfjords, Iceland. 1655 Þuríður JĂłnsdĂłttir has grown up praying to the old gods and watching her father and brother practise rune magic. But now, a witch-hunting craze is sweeping across the land of ice and fire, fuelled by the Protestant Reformation. Unlike elsewhere in Europe, those condemned as witches here are not women, but men of learning. And when Þuríður’s father and brother are accused of witchcraft and condemned to burn at the stake, she is helpless to save them. As Lutheran Pastor JĂłn MagnĂșsson's accusing gaze turns to Þuríður herself, the first woman to be called ‘witch’, he will find that she is no ordinary woman. She is prepared to fight back. But at what cost? And in an age of fear and persecution, whose side will the community take? Who will fight for justice? Set against a backdrop of sweeping religious and social change, They Can’t Burn Us All is a feminist retelling of Iceland’s notorious KirkjubĂłl witch trials. #fatguyreading #Ad #bookstagram #bantambooksuk #theycantburnusall

Thanks so much to @bonnierbooks_uk for sending me the copy of Magpie and the Sparkling Worlds by @lucymayrowland . @lorrainemonagle_design . @templarbooks . @plum_agency . About the book: A heartening rhyming picture book that celebrates the natural world with a vocabulary-rich story from award-winning, bestselling author Lucy Rowland and illustrations sparkling with joy from Craig Shuttlewood. In a MYSTICAL wood stood a MAGICAL tree - the home of BRILLIANT Magpie. From her nest, Magpie listens to the wonderful words of her fellow woodland animals. Words with a sparkle, a shimmer, a shine, entwined in her nest in the tree. She gathered them up and giggled, "They're mine - these sparkling words just for me!" But eventually, the other animals stay quiet so their words aren't being whisked away. Only then does Magpie realise that the silent wood doesn't glitter in the same way as before. After a storm destroys Magpie's nest, and sends her stash of sparkling words zooming back out into the forest, she finally learns that it is unity, kindness and sharing language that makes the words sparkle. This lyrical story effortlessly weaves exciting vocabulary alongside important themes of sharing, kindness and teamwork, encouraging readers to find the fun in literacy and share sparkling words with each other.
