INT. DINER - DAY This weekend, a bunch of talented crew and I got the chance to give an upcoming filmmaker access to crew and gear I wish I had back when I first started making films. Director Writer @asyiahjmontes and I met last year, and collaborated for an IFCKC challenge and had a blast. Since then we’ve talked about getting this project done for her, and day 1/3 was great. Thank you so much to the talented crew for donating their time to show these kids how a set runs! Last full day of shooting for “When She’s Gone” a local high school senior film by @asyiahjmontes Camera support was entirely high-school crew this time around, G&E, Audio and DIT had one mentor each, and the rest of the hard work was done by these students! Really stoked with this one too, soft light bounced into some unbleached muslin to feel like either soft subtle sunlight return or ambience, probably my favorite single shot story wise so far! I juggled with thinking this shot was too dark or not too dark for a bit, and I ended up concluding that there’s no right exposure, just exposure for the story. INT. BEDROOM - NIGHT This is the first time I’ve shot a night bedroom scene and felt like I achieved what I was going for. Now, whether what I was going for was right… is tbd. Ask me a year from now how I feel lol. Competitions like the Filmmaker Faceoff put on by the @ifc.kansascity are really nice because they get me off my ass and push me to do work that I don’t usually do. So I’m grateful for that.
