Road trip pit stop to the iconic native plant heaven Tree of Life Nursery. It’s sadly closing after 40+ years educating and promoting the beauty of California ecology.

BANDCAMP FRIDAY… Small batch of extra LPs from the @swiz_dc box set are now available from @dischordrecords … debut 12” and “Rejects / Down / With Dave” (3x7’s on a 12”). Classic black vinyl… on point for those late 80’s angsty/psyched vibes.

just found out @juicemagazine is presenting an encore screening of the CCCC doc, @bloodandsteelcccc … dirty east coast vert skating at its finest! Showing in Venice Beach, CA… a place where kids have never had to scrape ice off the ramp to take a run in a full parka. Hope to see some familiar faces there! ⚡️🔥⚡️

After the intense rains this week, planting for erosion control is important especially in our hillside communities. California natives like the tough but beautiful Yankee Point Carmel Lilac are great for bank stabilization and wildlife. These deep-rooted native plants rarely require fertilizer or pesticides, reducing runoff from polluting our waterways.

SWIZ Just after finishing the Swiz book, so decided to pull out my boxset just to admire the beauty of it all. The art, photography, lyrics, graphics - just beautiful - as a photographer I really appreciate the small things and attention to detail. The book is a real page turner. A journey from budding friendships, finding music and like minded souls to enjoy, create and express themselves through it all. An honest, no bullshit account of coming of age and finding your way, down highways and byways. From empty buildings to sweat filled halls and everything in between. Filled with colour and black and white pics, art and an honesty that could really only come from those that were there. I really enjoyed this. @swiz_dc @farrell9600 @akashicbooks

Sooooooo, finally this shows up. @farrell9600 after sitting in a sorting office in Dublin, it was returned to @akashicbooks in NYC. Luckily Johanna gave it another try and this time with Northern Ireland on it, I appreciate her posting it again. The who thing looks fantastic and totally complements the Swiz boxset that came out last year. Really looking forward to getting stuck in reading it and the photos are class too. I’ve lots of pics of Jason playing over here with Bluetip, unfortunately never saw Swiz.

Thanks to everyone in San Francisco who came out to the last Swiz book event. It was an honor to share the night with Radio Silence (a book I strongly suggest you pick up!! Second edition now available from @revelationrecords ). It was a joy to see so many old friends and friendly faces to share in a conversation on this culture we love, support, and continue to create in real time. thank you @christopherrobinduncan and @etalgallerysf for making it happen. For those that couldn’t make it out to SF, DC, LA, or NYC, we still have a limited amount of shirts, books, and a few Swiz box sets available to buy…drop us a DM! One moment has stuck with me since. A woman briefly derailed the panel and its 80’s/90’s-HC-nostalgia-huffing by insisting we talk about a far more pressing issue: the murder of yet another person by ICE agents that very morning. She was drunk, obnoxious, and not offering any solutions… but she was not wrong. just broken-hearted. We do need to talk about it…to constantly make it be known where we stand on what’s going on. So in that spirit of clarity, I would like to say I am not buying whatever justification, excuse, or lie is given or fabricated for harassing and killing American humans or non-American humans in the street, in their cars, in their homes, or in a detention center. If you feel you can’t escape this surround-sound assault – the sinking sense that horrible things are happening and you feel angry, or powerless, or overwhelmed – just know it is by design. It is the continuation and escalation of tactics designed to create fear, division, and chaos as cover for a power grab whose success relies on you giving up. Take your breaks when you can to catch your breath, get centered, get calm…then get back at it. Keep witnessing, filming, speaking out, challenging, protesting, fighting, thinking, creating, and building something better that’s rooted in love, joy, inclusion, and strength. But if you’re someone who feels totally cool with this situation then take a moment to try and understand why someone might be concerned or outraged…a quick gut-check with your heart and your mind. I hope you find something of value in either.
