Often on Sundays when I’ve been away for the weekend, Lila and me go and pick up Atlas from the dog pension. It’s a big farm with dogs and horses and a donkey. I always take Lila with me. It’s one of my favourite things in the world. In the car I see Lila squint her eyes because of the evening sun. I ask her if she wants sunglasses. She smiles and says yes. She puts on the sunglasses, flips down the passenger visor and slides open the mirror. She looks at herself with the oversized sunglasses and laughs. I cry. One day this will be over. The two of us in the car to pick up our dog, pet the horses and the donkey. My favourite thing in the world.
Nowruz/Nawruz is around the corner, and we would love to invite you to our New Year get-together at @murmur.ams . 🌱
Our region, to put it mildly, is under immense pressure, and the impact of these events is felt strongly here in the diaspora.
This gathering is a simple space for us to be together across borders and distances, to acknowledge what is happening in our communities and our region, and to take a moment to breathe. It might feel strange to celebrate Nowruz in such a time, but we believe that coming together in solidarity, connecting, and being present with one another is itself a form of resistance.
Together with diaspora friends from diverse backgrounds, we will fill the day with music and sounds that transcend borders, including Iran, Kurdistan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Lebanon, Armenia, and beyond.
Food will be organised by Farhad & Rojin, featuring Kabab Koobideh (on the BBQ) and ash-e-reshte (traditional vega soup).
Everyone is welcome at this event, whether or not you personally celebrate Nowruz.
Tickets are €10 and are available online (link in bio or via website murmur).

Had my summer in fall, fell in love with Marseille, took my freshly repaired by myself car on a 4500km road trip and it didn’t skip a beat, made new friends, got my car broken into, practiced my Italian, cut my foot swimming, heart is full, I feel present and grateful. Thanks guys.
Car repair dump. Experiencing the engine that you brought back to life start for the first time is cathartic af. Up until November I had no experience working on cars, and I did a few small repairs to get a feeling for it. But when white smoke was coming out of my exhaust and garages quote 3000 euros to fix a blown head gasket, I decided to rebuild the top end of my engine myself. Thanks to very dear friends and special people, and a vibrant community in the DIY workshop, hours of figuring it out, I managed to complete this humbling experience without making too many mistakes.
