Fighting hunger and #foodwaste by saving good quality in-date surplus food and redistributing it to charities across the UK. š
Reg. Charity No 1100051
We have some exciting news! š¢ FareShare and The Felix Project are merging, uniting two leading forces in surplus food redistribution to tackle hunger and food waste across the UK.
Together, weāre creating a bigger and more ambitious charity with one clear mission: to rescue good food and get it to the people who need it most.
Between us, we already help get good food to over a million people a year, working through thousands of community organisations, schools, and local charities across the UK ā but demand is rising and 8 in 10 charities fear they canāt keep up.
By joining forces in 2026, weāll unlock more food, more funding, and more influence, strengthening the health, wellbeing and resilience of communities when they need us most.
This is a hugely exciting step, making every pound and meal go further. To find out more, click the link in our bio š
Did you know only 4% of the food we redistribute is made up of cupboard staples? Weāre talking about the essentials: pasta, rice, oil, and tinned tomatoes.
@TheFelixProject and @FareShareUK are joining forces this Spring to change that. Our goal? 100 TONNES of cupboard essentials saved by June 30th. Thatās 240,000 meals for families across the UK.

Every year, billions of meals worth of perfectly edible food goes to waste in the UK. At the same time, millions of people are experiencing food insecurity and worrying about where their next meal will come from.
This Stop Waste Food Day, weāre proud to say that the fresh produce weāve donated has helped provide the equivalent of 2 million meals to people who need them most. Through our partnership with @fareshareuk , weāve also prevented nearly 1,000 tonnes of embedded COā and 400 million litres of water from going to waste. š¤š
What might otherwise go to waste is instead making a real difference in communities across the country. Together, weāre turning surplus into support for those who need it most. š±

When you open your cupboards, you might not realize the power those tins of beans and lentils hold in ensuring a family has a healthy meal. But to Rea, a working mum who uses the L6 Community Centre, these staples are a lifeline:
āThose cupboard basics are a āmust haveā in our household; they always have been. Ever since I was a kid, our cupboards have always been full of long-life food such as pasta sauces, pasta, tinned beans, tea and biscuits. It makes you feel like youāve always got something to hand to feed the family.ā
However, with the rising cost of living, keeping those cupboards full is becoming an uphill battle. This security is especially vital during the school holidays, when the L6 Community Centre steps in to provide families with two out of their three daily meals.
Because these cupboard staples are essential to a healthy home, they have become our number one most-requested items. To meet this need, weāve set an ambitious target for our suppliers to find an extra 100 tonnes of cupboard staples like rice, pasta, and cooking oil by the end of June.
By supporting our campaign, you aren't just donating food; youāre helping provide that sense of security that every parent deserves.

Last year, over half of the surplus food we received from @Tesco was fresh fruit, veg, and salad.
From juicy oranges to crisp salads, this fresh food reached 1.5 million people through our network of charities nationwide, helping to provide nourishing meals for families across the UK.
Thanks Tesco!
Spend a day volunteering with @thefelixproject and faresharelondon an organisation that rescues surplus food and redistributes it to Charities, food banks, schools and organisations across the UK. š„¦
Theyāre looking for volunteers to help them rescue surplus food from supermarkets and suppliers, sort and pack it at their depots, and deliver it to charities, schools and community organisations across London š

Over the next two years, weāll be partnering with @TheFelixProject and @FareShareUK to tackle food waste and food insecurity in the UK.
Together, weāre aiming to raise Ā£1 million, mobilise thousands of volunteer hours and help redistribute the equivalent of over five million meals ā helping create a future where no good food goes to waste and nobody goes hungry.

ā»ļø Big changes to your bins: What you need to know!
Ever wondered why you can recycle a yogurt pot in one council but not the next? Thatās about to change. England has recently rolled out a Simpler Recycling program to standardise recycling practices so they're the same across the country, reducing confusion.
Whatās changing?
By law, councils across England must now collect these four groups:
š Food & Garden waste: Weekly food waste collections are now mandatory (and free!).
š¦ Paper & Card: No more guessing if it goes in the "main" bin or a separate box.
š¾ Dry Recyclables: This includes glass, metal, plastic, and juice cartons.
šļø General Rubbish: Everything else that can't be recycled.
One big highlight of this is all councils are now required to collect your food waste every week. Instead of going to a landfill where it rots and creates greenhouse gases, itāll be used to create renewable energy and fertilizer for farms. šā”
Some of you may already be experiencing the changes since they launched at the end of March. However, about 31 councils have been given extra time to comply with the new rules, so don't panic if your bins and collection routine haven't changed yet. You can stay updated by checking your local council's website.
Has you council already enacted the new rules? Have you noticed a difference? And what do you think of the new simpler rules? Let us know in the comments. š
