My latest for @nyt_well was months in the making — and one of the most fascinating stories I have ever reported.
I first learned that this was a thing from my own (wonderful) Pilates instructors.
Last summer, as I did leg circles on a reformer machine, my instructor casually mentioned a tidbit she’d learned about fascia — while dissecting a human cadaver. Come again? I asked. She is not a doctor, nor had she ever attended medical school. But she wanted to learn more about the human body than her fitness training could offer. So she enrolled in a hands-on human dissection workshop.
Twenty interviews — and a visit to a cadaver lab — later, I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to tell this story. (Which, as I told my editor, could fill a book.) I’ll never be able to unsee what I witnessed, but I’m okay with that. Link in bio!
