Runners, we’re investigating a #HotToddyHeist and need your help spotting suspicious behaviour.
Picture this: a volunteer asks for a warm OB, her mate pours it, then BOOM - a herd of hypothermic False Bay 50-ers stampedes and someone yoinks the cup! We SAW one runner sprint off grinning. Mystery runner, hope that cheeky tot turbocharged your finish but it wasn’t meant for you.
Fess up: who nabbed the volunteer’s hot toddy at the water station? Tag yourself and promise a refill to our frozen hero. Karma (and another warm OB) awaits. 😂🥃
Please help by tagging who you think is the culprit so we can get to the bottom of this.

🌊 When the ocean roars, the wind howls, and the road feels endless… we rise, we push, we keep going.
From Kleinmond to Gordon’s Bay, runners took on one of SA’s most scenic ultra marathons along Clarence Drive 🏃♂️
Facing wind, rain and sunshine in one race, every athlete showed true grit and resilience 💪🌬️🌧️☀️
Thank you to the supporters, volunteers and organisers who made it all possible 🙌
With the new 10 km race and the 50 km as a Comrades qualifier, the False Bay 50 continues to grow while staying true to its spirit 🔥

Let's all please show Barry some love because without him, this race would not have happened! 🖤
Some people run the race.
Some people quietly make sure the race exists at all.
This year we want to give a proper shoutout to Barry Muller, the man behind the scenes of the False Bay 50, who has poured years of heart, energy, and calm leadership into this event.
Barry’s journey with our races started long before the False Bay 50 returned. Back in 2017, he became involved alongside Max Ruppert as a volunteer for the SAC Leapfrog 21 km and Labourwise 10 km events, later stepping in as race director for two years when Max left to work abroad.
Then came 2020, with plans to bring the False Bay 50 km back to life, but Covid had other ideas. 2021 still sat under restrictions. But from 2022 onward, Barry stepped fully into the role of race director through BM Events, helping rebuild and carry this race forward year after year, even through cancellations, washed away roads, and all the chaos most runners never see.
And somehow he still does it with humility and a smile.
What makes it even more special is that Barry isn’t just an organiser. He’s one of us.
At 11 years old he ran his first half marathon. Since then:
* 25 Two Oceans finishes
* 17 Voet van Afrika races, including 3 silver medals
* 2 Comrades Marathons
* Countless kilometres, early mornings, and stories earned on the road.
These days the running has eased up a little “for the bones,” and he’s swapped some mileage for cycling and rowing, but the endurance mindset clearly never left.
The truth is, races are built by people willing to care deeply when nobody is watching.
The route markers.
The permits.
The stress.
The weather checks.
The sleepless nights before race day.
The endless problem solving so others can simply arrive and run.
Barry, thank you for carrying this event with such commitment and heart and for the way you lead the whole False Bay 50 team. The False Bay 50 and running community are stronger because of you.
We see you and Lisa (Barry's wife who also worked in the trenches beside us). We appreciate you both. 🖤

This was the race where doubt met discipline and lost.It was a very difficult condition to start and finish the race.Runners are truly unique breed of people.Last long run before the big C done…Let wait for 14th June 🙏
“I kept thinking @comradesmarathon is never going to be as bad as this. If we can do this, it will make us stronger for race day,” said @carlamolinaro after winning the Balwin Properties False Bay 50km Ultra Marathon from Kleinmond to Gordons Bay.
In testing weather along the False Bay coastline, both winners @carlamolinaro and @stevengeorge4942 showed composure and endurance, navigating the elements to secure decisive victories.

A massive thank you to our incredible sponsor Talisman for powering the False Bay 50 from start to finish. ⚡
From providing 3 vehicles, generators, telescopic floodlights and power infrastructure, to sponsoring and managing a water table on race day, your support was everywhere, often quietly behind the scenes, keeping the race moving.
Events like this don’t happen without partners who show up, solve problems, and stay all in.
We’re hugely grateful. 🙌
@falsebay50 was more like Cape Town marathon 2.0 but this time we actually did run in the wind, gusts and rain…
Trigger warning for those who ran Falsebay50, don’t watch if you don’t want to experience the adverse weather again. 😅
But if you wanna hear loud noises of wind with a bit of chatter from me, even some swearing (sorry), and our @westcoastathleticclub club captain, this is for you.
My second ultra marathon and much more controlled than 2Oceans. We tried to practice @comradesmarathon pace, and apart from km 30-35ish I felt actually quite good.
My last 8 kilometer were really strong, literally found a second wind, haha, and finished with 4:27 on the final kilometer after running 49… Enjoyed the finish much more than at Oceans. 💪
Oh yeah, we also found a stunning sunrise and a beautiful rainbow - I tried to capture everything as best as I could. 🌈🌅
A big THANK YOU to all marshals from @strandathleticsclub who came out despite the weather.
PS. My new @pumasouthafrica Velocity NITRO 4 felt great, no blisters, no pain - Comrades shoe locked in. 🔒
42 days or 6 weeks to the big C today.

Where does one even begin to describe @falsebay50 of 2026. This event has become one of my favourite and most scenic races on the calendar. The torrential rain & severe winds was not enough to spoil the party. The race which forms part of my Comrades marathon preparations had all the elements in testing my physical & mental strength. I felt strong by adopting a positive attitude & not allowing the conditions to dictate matters. By the grace of God, I managed to secure 1st place in my category & 13th overall in the race. Well done to all the runners who persevered & completed the race. You can all be extremely proud of yourselves. And last but not least, the organizers @strandathleticsclub who did a phenomenal job by hosting the event in such trying conditions. 📸 @racesnap.co.za@nedbankrunningclub_wpa@ysterbester
