April already?! Haha, but it's been really quite a year so far - here's a dump of the top moments, and can you say "iconic"? These are what we're tracking as culture heads to summer 🌞
RIP Pancakes 2008-2026. 18 years of lounging, stealing, grumbling, snuggling, and screaming in the night. She liked the salt on tortilla chips and her favorite movie scene was the start of The Thing where they shoot at a dog. In honor of her spirit's diffusion to every corner of the cosmos, you are called to demand everything you want from everyone around you. And thank you @marryyourmotherinlaw for keeping the little sweetie so demonically healthy for so many years ❤️🐾
My mom Lucy Stofle-Anderson passed away suddenly this week at the age of 80. Lucy was a loving presence in so many lives, and spent decades as a preschool director helping raise generations of San Franciscan toddlers. She is survived by her two sons and her two brothers. She is reunited with her husband, Leonard, whom she wed in 1970.
Lucy was a pagan, a purple belt in karate, and the creator of the San Francisco International Beer Festival, which to this day raises operating funds for the Telegraph Hill Co-op Nursery School.
She gave herself the middle name Banana in childhood, and used it on most government forms with impunity. She once infiltrated and destroyed the compound of some neighborhood bullies, caving in the roof before moving to another town. She hitchhiked to see Ray Charles, and dated Pigpen of the Grateful Dead. She drove stick, fast, over the hills of San Francisco in a moldy old VW Rabbit, and drove a Toyota 4-Runner, automatic, through the Mojave at 120mph to visit her radio DJ friend in Vegas.
Lucy loved reading, and hated the war machine. She protested against the Vietnam War, and for the Civil Rights movement. She once thought a guy had a cute British accent, only to learn the man was from Philadelphia. She had a lifelong crush on Muhammad Ali because she’d never seen a man call himself pretty before, and she later developed a fondness for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.
In West Virginia, she assisted families as a VISTA volunteer. In Mexico, she was serenaded by a man whose proposal she declined. In New York, she graduated from CUNY, and appreciated the peace and quiet of her Mafia-controlled neighborhood in Staten Island. In London, she had difficulty figuring out a socially acceptable level of profanity. In Montreal, she ran a women’s shelter, and enjoyed Canadiens hockey games, where a player once winked at her after he was slammed into the boards near her seat.
Lucy loved parties, bridge games, live music, and the SF Giants. Her favorite food was ice cream. For her wedding, she wore cowboy boots. 1945 - 2025.
