How are stores in the city center of Athens changing?
Valia Aranitou from ESEE - a FABRIX Facilitator - has observed retail in Athens, Greece over the past 10 years, and here she says what they have found. You probably have observed the trend yourself, maybe also in other cities - tourism services are taking over clothing retail, workshops and other shops for locals.
But it's not all bad news: there is also a new tendency towards designer-producers who sell directly to the public. An example of this is @3quarters.design , one of our awarded SMEs whose central Athens store we happened to visit last year.
One of the features of the FABRIX platform that we are most looking forward to sharing with you is the Impact Compass.
As Ángel Marcos Vicente from AIDIMME. Technology Institute explains in this video, a series of questions will give T&C SME’s useful feedback - a compass, if you will - to improve their level of circularity and sustainability based on numerous criteria.

Not every company sees the need to be “sustainable”. Sometimes the numbers, however, help convince them that it’s the right road to take.
Elena from @tenmillionhandsorg , one of our Facilitators in Athens, tells us about their network and their observations of consumer behaviour that they find can help convince SMEs.

We want to see what happens when you put like-minded SMEs - many of them startups - in a room. Aside from drinking an average of 1.75 cups of coffee, we’re seeing basic connections like using each others’ services (I make clothes, you make natural dyes, I could try your dyes) but we wonder if it could go beyond that. Could we share renewable energy, machinery, knowledge?
The FABRIX platform connects SMEs to help you find what you’re looking for. But also what you didn’t know you were looking for.
We are almost there.

Here we are in Delft last week in front of our lead partner’s building, though we kinda wish instead of saying ARCHITECTURE it said CIRCULAR ECONOMY or something…
Jokes aside, an in-person meeting is always productive and even more so at this crucial phase of the project: very soon we will be onboarding SMEs to our platform and then doing it’s public launch, and we can’t wait to see the magic happen! But until then we have a lot of work to do so we rolled up our sleeves and got planning.

Our partner @aueb.gr is in charge of data collection for the FABRIX project. Here, Prof. Alexandros Papalexandris explains why that’s useful: the right anonymised data helps the SMEs on our platform see where they stand compared to others in their community, and helps Facilitators and Policy makers direct their decisions.

Fabrix is building a platform to support textile and clothing communities to become more local, circular, and sustainable. In the context of our "open call for organisations", business owners are asking "What does this platform do for me?".
