For this @metgala2026 I loved working with @luar /@raullopez to create this beautiful dress, a modern "grown up" interpretation of Valázquez's Las Meninas with the volume focused on the hip. Such a special night celebrating @emmagrede book launch in New York 🤍 thrilled to have hosted with @therealdvf and @toryburch , in her beautiful home. I’ve gotten to know Emma over the years,especially on trips, where you really see who someone is, and she’s exactly that: warm, generous, funny, smart and so thoughtful, someone who really cares. I’m a Venezuelan born American citizen, and this is a deeply meaningful and welcome moment for Venezuelans, it represents the release of a long held yearning for hope, peace, and justice something so many have prayed for and waited on for years.
Nicolás Maduro/Hugo Chavez are responsible for immense suffering, systemic corruption, and the dismantling of a nation. Their actions stripped millions of Venezuelans of dignity, safety, and a future. Maduro should be held accountable under the law, and his departure is a moment of profound relief and long overdue justice. We are genuinely grateful to see this chapter end.
At the same time, I can’t ignore that this moment is also intertwined with capitalism, exploitation by another group,oil profits, and a different kind of control those realities exist alongside the celebration, and I am cautious to say that this will eventually be the best solution for our oppression.
Still, my hope is strong that this truly turns out better for my beloved Venezuela my county that I love so deeply #venezuelalibre💛💙❤️ .
