This cohort of Triangle awardees was selected from 15 trios who previously participated in the foundation’s Open Interval program, which supports unbound collaboration between an artist, a researcher and an arts organization.
This year’s program is part of the foundation’s Infinite Sums initiative, which celebrates math’s beauty and place in culture.

Went to see Jiabao’s exhibit today! So good, exploring different and often difficult aspects of birth and motherhood, societal expectations and the treatment of women’s bodies in our current age of AI, commodification and declining birthrates, all with a brilliant sense of humor. I’m proud to say I helped with one part of her exhibit, 4D baby! This grew out of our collaboration through the Simons Foundation Open Interval Program. Happy pi day! 🥧 I was honored to help out as one of the math consultants to botanical gardens as part of the @simonsfoundation Infinite Sums National Math Initiative over the past few months, and had so much fun today volunteering and being part of the festivities @sabgtx 💚 The weather was perfect, the gardens were so beautiful and I loved working with @teletextile teaching kids and adults about math and sound! For those interested, there will be two more math days at the botanical garden, 8/8 infinity day and 11/23 Fibonacci day.

I’ll be doing a public demonstration of the Math of Sound & Vibrational Instruments for the first time ever during Celebrate Pi Day. I’m super excited to collaborate with @f_futamura a mathematician and professor at @southwesternu who studies math in art and more. Experience the resonant tones of crystal singing bowls, tuning forks, the gong and the harp while discovering how frequency, patterns, and waveforms connect music and math. We will talk about the principles behind π, circles, and natural patterns also shape the sounds we hear. Supported by @simonsfoundation

I’m at Gathering 4 Gardner! It’s a puzzle/games/magic/math/art conference celebrating Martin Gardner with puzzle nights and magic shows, and I’m in awe of everyone here. I got to see my favorite mathematical fiber arts pieces and friends in person! It’s in San Francisco so I also went to Mission Dolores where Vertigo was filmed. ✨

This was my last 24 hours… had dessert with my childhood friend who was in town ❤️, did car karaoke jingle bell rock with these fine folks for an SU promotional video 😳, then organized a sushi dinner on the library patio for 28 students who came to watch a really great JETAA live-stream talk on Religion of Anime ⛩️😍. Oh, and taught two classes somewhere in there 📝. Busy but fun!!
The best girl’s trip to the California coast with Alison and Carina! Our house in the redwood forest was so close to everything, the great town of Guerneville, the Korbel winery (my first winery tour), Goat Rock Beach where the last scene of the Goonies was filmed, a delicious bakery with an amazing garden, an old Russian fort, a redwood forest and a eucalyptus forest… had so much fun with friends in such an amazing place. 💕
