📣WORKSHOP ALERT!!!📣 SpeakEasy Presents: HIP HOP WORKSHOP W/VLOVE Vanessa was born and raised in Ottawa, Canada. From a young age, she was interested in dance, whether that was performing traditional Caribbean dances or dancing to the latest hip-hop songs with her cousins. After discovering hip-hop music, she began to explore the dance form further, which led to many years of training in hip-hop and other street and club styles. Over the years, Vanessa has played an active role in the street dance community, organising events, judging local street dance battles, sitting on panels, and teaching classes. FOR WHO? This workshop is open to dancers of any style with some experience. Feel free to email us with any questions—using the same address as registration. WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 18 TIME: 4:30-6PM WHERE: @theflavafactory , 1076B Wellington St. W PRICE: $30 until Oct.11/ $40 after Oct. 11 Contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions! 🔗in bio to register

I’m starting year two of my masters—researching natureculture, together not apart. I’ve been doing LOTS of (academic) reading but I’m appreciating how my position came from what (where) I do and who with. So sharing such moments 🙂 1. imagé, by me + dancers, tangente, Olivier and Jo 📷 @denismartin.qc 2. outside. 3. PRISM, by @tentacletribe 📷 @dophanhoi 4. outside, again. 5. had a scene in HUBRIS, by @lesmaltcommodes 6. slow. 7. outside, go slower. 8. outside, wanna go fast. 9. DiRT, by @tentacletribe 📷 @melika.dez 10. 🌱 🏄‍♀️ 🌱

myself along with V, Armel, and G (as speakeasy) made a piece called - loop it. it’s a dance inspired by the practice of sampling as we know it in Hip Hop. to honour something and/ or someone to make a new. music by @olivierfairfield - his sound is a trip, woah. we’re on this Nov 23, 24, 25 at the ODD BOX. all thanks to ODD who’s supported this project from the get. merciii 💫 we’ve also got @theflavafactory who’s always been in our corner. thank you 💕 lastly, thank you to @ontarioartscouncil and @cityofottawa who made our actions possible. come join us! beautiful performances by @belindamcguire as well! tickets through @ottawadancedirective

a full circle watch on superheroes cry too. the show spoke to feelings. superhero duties we all have. and how it’s a lot. gulping that is step one. an almighty baby step. @dansecite made the show possible and thank you hardly covers how grateful I am. close to my heart is the team. @nubiannene @true.2wo.self @iamjigsawmtl @vicversavic - superheroes on stage but mostly in life. @iamshashu with who I share my brain. he lives in space but his sound connects us all to earth. it was my first time directing (with Shash). @timesarewasted became my precious confidant. she held down the entire team with her nerdy intellect. @alexspicey_lkg also offered amazing advice. @processvisual - who made the wild suits of armour you see. and @timrodrigues_lx @vladimir.bodypaint - they are phenomenal. they made the world of superheroes cry too other than here (reality). essential to our approach. to @ausgangplaza who’s team and space I - standing ovation - for. I now sit on my sofa w/ an important takeaway—> superman cries on his way to saving the world. I know it to be true. @mtlfrgmnt mon ami(e) 👾
