I put a @mikelikesrap a cappella over a beat I made with a George Duke sample and then I made this little animation to go with it. Enjoy.

I sampled my mom playing piano and turned it into a beat. Then I played it as an opener for my last @extsrc show. And then I animated this guy.

On Father’s Day I volunteered to knock an activity off of my bucket list, DJing at one of my favorite record shops, @plan9music , for @wrir973 .
I played a few of my favorite jazz-fusion records, a few straight from Plan 9’s own dollar bin, recorded onto my SP-404MKII because I sold my DJ decks years ago... 🤷🏾♂️
Thanks to @sknightschultz , @wanderingdjinn , @fantashstic , and my grumpy son for coming by to hear me play. And thanks to Plan 9 for having me! If you need me again, I’m around... 👀 Sarah took the first photo, Ashley took the shot of Theo refusing to give me a high five.
Also, Talib Kweli was standing outside the shop before I went on and I will forever regret not saying hi and getting a photo. 👍🏾
Next Wednesday at 3-5pm EST on @extsrc I’m celebrating my 10th episode by revisiting one of my favorite genres of music: video game soundtracks. 14 years ago I created a mix called “Sega Saturn Megamix” which included a collection of my favorite tracks straight from my game collection (still on my Mixcloud). This new mix is going to include a few of those along with some others I didn’t include the first time.
The music from this era holds a special place in my heart. Game companies had switched over to using discs which allowed for full, CD-quality sound. Composers at the time didn’t hesitate to take advantage of it.
As a kid I noticed that if you placed the games into a normal CD player you could listen to the soundtracks (known as red book audio). While a lot of my friends were probably listening to pop, I was recording game music onto cassettes. As the son of two jazz-loving parents I was immediately drawn to the fusion featured in games like Sega Rally Championship and Daytona USA. This period was also my introduction to electronic music, through Cold Storage’s work on Wipeout. It was that game that lead me to browse FYE’s “dance” section and pick up Roni Size & Reprazent’s “Newforms”, the first album I purchased on my own and would influence my taste in music forever.
So turn back the clock to 1994 when Sega was making terrible business decisions but great music! I hope listeners enjoy the show and bear with me while I nerd out for two hours.
🎙️ Meet DJ Theodore III (@extsrc ), one of WRIR’s amazing volunteers, bringing you music you won’t find anywhere else on RVA airwaves! 📻

Years ago EXT SRC started out as a simple Tumblr blog where I’d post MP3s that I was interested in. From there it became a short series of mixes uploaded to Mixcloud. Now it’s a radio show on @wrir973 ! And further, I wanted to create a tangible record of the show so I’ve used my zine-making abilities to do just that. Music these days, at least for me, feels disposable and without much context compared to when physical media was common. So I tend to forget some songs or albums. I see this as a creative way to keep track of what I’m listening to.
So really this is mostly for myself, but I’m making copies for others if they want to discover new music they may be interested in. I placed a few copies in the Little Free Library outside of Ellwoods. And if you’re in town and want a copy I can print one off! You can also download it digitally on my itch.io page (link in my bio).
All of the biographical text is pulled from third-party sources for simplicity’s sake. To pad out the zine I’ve also included some of my photography. Currently working on Volume 2…
