For our most recent External Talks Session, we welcomed Dr. Kunal Chadha to the studio.
@kunaalchadha is an architect specializing in construction robotics. His research and practice focus on merging non-standard, locally sourced materials with advanced digital fabrication to drive sustainable, low-carbon architecture.
He joined us to discuss his background at @gramaziokohlerresearch (@ethzurich ) and his current work as co-founder of the ETH Zurich spin-off, Impact Build.

Our CEO, Carmelo Zappulla, took part in the launch of Hyundai's new IONIQ 3 during Milano Design Week 2026, with a Talk titled From Radical to Computational.
Together with Eduardo Ramírez, Head of Hyundai Design Center Europe, he explored the links between car design, architecture, and interiors.
The Talk reflected on how the radical design ideas of the 60s and 70s continue to shape the work of External Reference, from reusing elements in new contexts to creating new forms through emerging technologies.
A conversation on design, materiality and technology, connecting past and future through a contemporary lens.
In our latest External Talk, we explored the intersection of AI and 3D development with David León, @dvdndrs .
As a consultant at the forefront of the AEC industry, David is redefining how designers use digital tools to push the limits of what’s possible. From his research in robotics to advanced computation, it was a deep dive into the future of our built environment.
