Moustafa Hassan (b. 1991) is a conceptual artist and researcher currently based in Washington DC.
Moustafa works in a variety of media with the hope of creating sustained proximity between otherwise disparate fields of practice, breaking away from hegemonic digital cultures. At present, Moustafaโs engagements include artistic and institutional exhibitions, as well as contributions to writing and collaborations centered around decolonization and creating meaningful and future forward work through image, space, sound, and film.

After almost 1 year of silence, External Pages has waited with bated breath to launch a recently developed piece by Moustafa Hassan titledย Soul Reaper! Click through to externalpages.org and experience @muemuto 's new show - video + essay + code about cultural transgression, spatial vulnerability, identity (or lack thereof), the climate crisis, and colonialism.
A nebula of pliable content lights up the screen. Songs and prose float atop Youtube clips of urban weeds, which expand as the visitor scrolls and disperse when touched. New pages of verse break away, released via clicks on visual gateways. Splintered spirals outline the cursorโs movement through space in an effort to appoint the user to lead the pieceโs creative dialogue, as poems are formed in tandem. Here, the visitor determines whether 'Prestidigital *67' is a video, a song, a poem, a game or a painting. But why decide?

Prestidigital *67ย was built by Theo in response to their engagement with โ and attempts to find the symbolic links between โ hypertext methodology and the mystical cosmology of Kabbalah. Focussing on the phenomenon of โcross-referencingโ, Theoโs interpretation reveals that there is a familiarity in the looping patterns of hypertextโs conceptual schematics and the multicursal narrative/logic of the sefirot geometry: an entity that is as interconnected and integrated as a network or cosmos. As Theoโs interests span poetry, religion and technology,ย Prestidigital *67ย was influenced by both source texts and tangential texts found online.
