Our Victorian team braved the winter wonderland themed evening to catch up with colleagues, clients and collaborators from across the legal, planning, environment and heritage sectors, while celebrating this year’s award winners. ❄️
Melbourne weather had already trained us for this. We were ready. The fluffy fur coats, scarves, beanies and ski gear, were all already on standby thanks to our collective ability to survive four seasons in one day. ⛷
Big thanks to @vpela_ for another fantastic night, and to our @therskgroup colleagues from @capirecg and @edgeimpact.creative for joining the Extent Heritage table for the evening. We all sleighed, naturally ✨

What can Victorian coastal dunes tell us about Aboriginal Cultural Heritage?
Parabolic dunes carry high heritage potential — but their complex preservation histories and low visibility in standard aerial imagery make them easy to miss in the field.
Senior Heritage Advisor Ashleigh Bentley and Heritage Advisor Emily Tour presented original research on this topic at the 2026 Victorian Archaeology Colloquium, conducted on Bunurong Country.

On 5 March, Heritage Advisor Sophia Fu had the opportunity to attend Research Reveals 2026: Queensland History Symposium, a two‑day event where the 2025 State Library Fellows presented the outcomes of their research projects.
This year’s presentations spanned refugee history and Queensland sporting history, particularly in relation to the upcoming Brisbane Olympics.
Some highlights from the Symposium included:
Presentations by Bronwyn Bridgwater and Dr Kate Kirby, both focusing on Queensland sporting history in the lead-up to the Brisbane Olympics.
Bronwyn explored the social history of the Ekka and its ongoing relationship with the RNA, while Dr Kirby analysed site data within the Queensland Heritage Register, looking at sports heritage and the underrepresentation of sports‑related places in the State register.
Anna Rowe’s research into the digital reconstruction of traditional wallpaper prints found in domestic homes across Queensland.
Sophia also had the chance to explore the State Library of Queensland’s collection, including artefacts connected to the presentations, such as an early camera owned by a businesswoman, an archival wallpaper sample book, and various pieces of sports‑heritage ephemera and photographs.
Events like this are valuable opportunities to engage with the latest research in our field.
