I am so honoured to have contributed to the NASA Perseverance Mission by taking part in the landing site selection for the rover, and today she will land on MARS! For the landing, the Iceland Space Agency has invited me to do a livestream and panel along with Dr. Michael Thorpe from NASA Johnson Space Center and Ari Kristinn Jónsson from Reykjavik University just before the rover’s touchdown. We will discuss the mission, the importance of sample return, Iceland as an important Mars analog, and of course, the landing of Perseverance rover itself! THE ROY CHAPMAN ANDREWS CENTENNIAL EXPEDITION In June 2018, The Explorers Club Hong Chapter (ECHK) (@explorershk ) led a multidisciplinary team of scientists and adventurers over 1500 miles across the formidable Gobi Desert to revisit and expand upon the original Roy Chapman Andrews expeditions of the 1920’s that produced the world’s first fossilized dinosaur eggs. The Hong Kong Chapter’s “collaboration over conquest” approach to exploration, and their groundbreaking use of NASA imaging and mapping technology to advance the field of paleontology, yielded historic results that would have been unimaginable in Andrews' day.
