We are very excited to say we reached our target! Your generosity was overwhelming, and will go directly towards the planning and delivery of this years’ Salmon Run, helping to raise awareness of an incredible keystone species at risk, and bring communities into connection with each other and nature. For one day only now Aviva will double you donation, large or small, which will help us to: - Run Salmon Run again in 2026 (19 September) - Keep the plight of the endangered salmon on the Exe in the public eye. - Inform the community of actions that can be taken to help the salmon's life chances (i.e. no vetmeds) - recruit volunteers to help improve the river habitat in projects run by Westcountry Rivers Trust and Friends of the River Exe - provide a really fun local running event! Our Salmon Run was selected from over 100 films to be shown along with 7 other wonderful films at the Edinburgh Conservation Film Festival in the National Museum of Scotland, part of the Edinburgh Scoience Festival and I went along to see it on a big screen. The audience was audibly moved and I welled up to see the film as if for the first time as others see it. It is amazing on a big screen as you can find out at 3.30pm this Saturday 18th April at the Phoenix in Exeter when it will be shown before the amazing film 'Jo in the Water', both films being by the very busy film-maker Pip Piper. And there will be discussion of both films. The salmon story is getting out! In Edinburgh there was discussion of storytelling from a very accomplished panel which included Mat Larkin who made the extraordinary Riverwoods film about salmon and trees! A must see film. Salmon Run highlights the plight of the endangered Atlantic salmon on our river Exe by running as a community in empathy with the journey of the salmon up river from the sea to the spawning grounds on Exmoor. The events spreads information about how we can improve the salmons life chances and we work with Westcountry Rivers Trust to provide opportunities to help with river restoration.
