Artists throw the phrase “magnum opus” around so much. Actually, they don’t. So when I tell you this Ode to David Attenborough is my magnum opus, I mean it with the full magnumtude of the words.
I wrote this before our king Attenborough turned 100, so I’ll have to change a line, but please enjoy this performance of me from @ritualrhythmschicago May Day Madness.
My dream is that @davidattenborough gets to see this. 🙏🙏🙏
And so much gratitude to videographer Ray Duran for the footage.

Pickle Fest 2026 is a wrap! Did you all know there is a whole “space”…a community of pickle lovers? Anna and I saw this in full force while we wrote pickle poems for people bedecked in pickle paraphernalia, munching fried pickles and sipping pickle beer.
We heard tales of pickle fountains, mango pickle drinks, Fruit Rollup-wrapped pickles, killer pickles.
As these poems show, people have a deeeeeeeep passion for pickles.
And pickle people are VERY committed to their favorite and least favorite varieties!
People from all over the country were there. Many said they had their pickle poems from last year framed. 🥹
The most powerful thing to witness was how pickles brought people together. Moms and daughters, best friends, sisters, roommates, in-laws, strangers…even non-participating supporters, all steeped in the brine of a Saturday afternoon full of sunshine, memories, and a little bit of dill.

You ever put on an outfit and your whole entire mood changes?
I dressed for this event five hours before it started and felt glamified to my toes.
The city I’ve lived in for 17 years felt like a placed I’d never been.
And my hair looked 💥 once I took out the pin curls.

Here’s my April 4 poem! Inspired by me hitting my head on the corner of a cabinet while cleaning.
This is a photo of something I tried to cook.
Im half-ashamed to admit
how many kitchen habits
I picked up from men.
A Saturday evening
and I have begun to reclaim counter space
Pile by pile.
Transferring handfuls of hair bows and mateless earrings
Out of sight,
Out of
my freezer come petrified avocado skins,
cucumbers that collapsed on themselves.
Eggshells.
It’s what his mother’s always done.
He said smash garlic, then peel it.
He said soak dried beans,
Then feed the plants the water.
He said I didn’t know how to stir.
I served him onion tears.
I can still flip omelets
With one hand.
Sometimes they even land back in the pan.
“Shh,” the dishwasher whirs.
Warning me
That no vessel will ever be completely clean.
He said never leave a cabinet open
While you’re working.
SMACK dab between scrubbing,
I remember.
I’m gonna get a goose egg

Happy #poetrymonth! Each day, I’ll share a poem inspired by an image.
This one draws inspiration from a restaurant ceiling fan on an episode of Better Call Saul. It’s paired with an image of a $2 coffee from the Green Mill that evokes the same feeling of limbo.

March was as much a verb as it was a noun.
Things that made me smile:
Noir books and movies
Teaching a typewriter poetry/spontaneous word adventure workshop
Delicious bites
Also food with friends
Long calls with friends and family
Buds and blooms
Me growing too
C2E2
Thrifted dresses
Fallout
Animals
4 a.m. poems
Feeling safe and loved and heard
Time marching on
