My piece is on the @flintriverwatershed building. Initially, I was gonna paint on just about half the wall. Feeling the space out, feeling the set and setting, I made some adjustments to my concept, and added to it throughout the process. Iām really excited to share this one.

Meet Efren Rebugio Jr., also known as ER š

ER is an Austin based muralist creating dynamic large scale works that blend vibrant color, movement, and cultural storytelling. His murals celebrate individuality while reflecting the voice and spirit of the communities they are created in.

Stoked to announce our next major public art project, which is centered on the stories and memories of the Kealoha Ź»ohana and PÄŹ»ia community.
Now underway, this multi-phase process weaves together storytelling, community input, and shared authorship to shape a final work that reflects the depth and richness of place. Artist Efren Rebugio is collaborating closely with Maui Public Art Corps and community members to translate the Hui Moāolelo recording of Sheldon & Andrea Kealoha into a large-scale mural. The completed artwork will be unveiled in July 2026 at the historic PÄŹ»ia Sugar Mill, offering a joyful celebration of PÄŹ»ia history, culture and sense of place.
We invite you to learn more about the project at mauipublicart.org/kealoha. We are actively seeking community collaborators, especially huki-net weavers and menders, speargun designers or others who feel a connection to Uncle Sheldonās story. If youāre interested in hosting or contributing a related community activity, we would love to hear from you at [email protected].
