E is for...
Enshittification!
You’ve heard us talk about this a couple of times (okay, MANY times), and now it’s official: E is for Enshittification is a real book that you can own, too. Our team has been working on this project for over a year, and it’s ready to share with the world. A special thank you to Cory Doctorow for sharing the work through his own channels, as this never would’ve happened without him. And an extra-special shout-out to all the folks at Evans Hunt who made this book possible. Grab your copy today and bring the joy (or despair) of enshittification home for the whole family.

Making YYC an extension of Calgary—literally and figuratively.
@fly_yyc asked us to modernize their brand with a simpler system and more creative range. Our first move: clarify the brand architecture so the experience reads as one brand, not many. From there we created a streamlined system and a people‑first identity; refreshing the logo and expanding a flexible toolkit that’s more creative, more approachable, and easier to use across terminals, teams, and channels.
Every touchpoint, from digital to on‑site, feels unmistakably Calgary.

The Cowichan region on Vancouver Island is as unique as it gets. Inspired by sun-soaked vineyards, cozy alpaca wool, and egg vending machines, the team got to work creating a series of collages comprised of brand imagery and real objects for @cowichantourism ‘s fall campaign (swipe to see how we did it 👀). Pairing those visuals with simple, handwritten copy and thoughtful narrative, we wanted to really embody the artisanal warmth of the region.
The campaign invites audiences to get curious, stay longer and “go with the slow” in the most down-to-earth place on Earth.

We’ve trained social teams to be clear, concise, and conversion‑minded.
Meanwhile, the internet fell in love with content that feels like it escaped someone’s drafts folder.
Kwik Trip’s “15 buttons in” post is a perfect example of what’s working right now: “it’s funny if you get it” brand content — context‑light posts that create a micro‑pause, invite curiosity, and build genuine affection without bribing anyone with a promo code.
You don’t need to be weirder. You need to be more human, on purpose. Not everywhere. Not all the time. But enough that people stop assuming you’re about to sell them something.
Now on Travel Alberta’s website: an AI‑powered “What’s Trending” web feature that turns experience listings into a living, timely showcase of Alberta adventures.
For visitors, “What’s Trending” provides data‑backed picks for destinations, experiences, and stays with a clear “why it’s trending” signal and fast paths to detailed listings.
For tourism operators, it offers more visibility when demand peaks (powered by automated ATIS data) and fewer manual updates. Travel Alberta continues to lead the way in developing meaningful, useful digital experiences for visitors and operators. Check it out on the @travelalberta website!

When we’re not at the office, we’re still doing cool stuff. Like sharing pints and ideas with fabulous folks from @adrodeo and the Calgary marketing community.
P.S. Get yourself someone who looks at you the way Mick looks at Nibs.
Thank you, @cabinbrewing , for hosting. See you next time!
ChatGPT ads have launched, and it’s reasonable to assume that other platforms aren’t far behind. While OpenAI is only launching the pilot advertising service on its free and lowest-priced tier plans, users don’t expect this to remain the standard forever. “It took Netflix 15 years to start putting ads on paid subscriptions, this will probably take less time,” said one user on the OpenAI subreddit.
In-chat ads are a whole new ballgame for marketers and consumers alike. How will each party adjust to the platform? What will it mean for advertisers and marketers? Time will tell.

One year later, we returned to UX Camp with two presentations and one very special sneak peek.
Arei R. spoke about user research; specifically, how to scale without losing quality. Andrew Turnbull presented on the evolving relationship between UX and Product Management. And we got to preview one of the most recent EH brain children: E is for Enshittification.

And thank you to everyone at @calgary_ux this year for making it another event to remember. Until next time.
Search has shifted; it isn’t just blue links and rankings anymore, it’s powered by AI. AI-generated answers are changing how people discover brands, compare options, and decide.
Join Krista Davey, our Head of Media & Analytics, as she breaks down what this shift really means for marketers and how to adapt. Krista will cover how LLMs surface information, what’s at stake for brand visibility and discoverability, and how to start building a Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) strategy.

EHers have many talents, including those found in the kitchen. We put together a Family Day Potluck that would outshine any Vegas buffet. But more importantly, we had 2 very special guests to supervise the meal (swipe to meet them).
