Throwback to our 2024 Bugaboos trip.
Questing around the 5.12 crux corner on the Watchtower. The sun was setting, the smoke haze was ominous. Little did we know, this smoke was floating directly in from the 2024 Jasper town fire. Due to deteriorating air conditions, we called the heli to cut our trip short. Still one of the most Epic routes Nick and I have ever climbed.

Early season fun on The Enterprise with @kinleyaitkenguiding and @aratson . This move is the break where you can either move left or right for Wrath of Khan or Eugenics War. A bit of a "choose your own adventure" kinda day.

Queen Piper 🐾. I couldn't ask for a better friend. Piper has swam in the Atlantic, the Pacific, and all the Great Lakes in between. She has chased squirrels from Canada to Mexico, reached the summits of many mountains, and has even been on the Bellygood Ledge. Might be pushing 12 this year, but good luck telling her to slow down.

Questing up the crux, 10 pitches up as the sun was setting in mid January. Must've been at least -4⁰. It's always rock season!!! What a fun night! There were wet streaks on the way up that turned into ice streaks on the way down. Getting back to the car at 9:30PM. Thanks Jordan from @vibebackcountry for being such a good support buddy for the whole ride.

True Love. 5.12something
This is one of those funky Smoke Bluffs rock climbs that has a bit of a lore to it. When you are parked at the main lot and waiting for your buddy to finally show, this black licheny slab littered with beaming white edges towers directly above the picnic tables, greeting climbers as they enter the Bluffs. When I had asked around over the years if people had tried True Love, the responses usually came back saying "it feels impossible" or "a hold must've broke". This last winter I finally gave this thing a try and agreed that it seemed mythical. With the good autumn conditions coming in, I wanted to give it another go, so I called up Alex, and he seemed more than stoked to get some shots of an attempt on this legendary climb. After a toprope rehearsal of some key nuancesy moves and foot shifting positions, I gave it a good first attempt on lead, and the myth was over. It still goes, 5.12something...
Thanks so much for these great shots @aratson on one of my favorite styles of climbing. Slab 🤤.
Big shout out to @nickawbrown for the support and patience that cold morning. Unfortunately Nick was dealing with an injury, but seems pretty stoked to get back on this funky line one day.

Grandwall Friday - Unbearable Saturday - Freeway Sunday
This summer has been a bit busy with work then what I'm used to. That probably sounds awesome, but it has lead me to not have many free days to do what I love most in climbing, multipitch. Before the end of this August, I had only climbed one personal multi on the Chief this season. Just after the Squamish Arc'teryx Academy in August, I had a stacked lineup of amazing Chief routes that all went free and groovy, everything that I needed to end the summer with. On Friday the 29th, I did my first guided lap of the Grandwall with @adityagalgotia the bone crusher. On Saturday the 30th, @nickawbrown and I made a groovy first go of the fantastic route Unbearable. That route truly deserves more love. On Sunday the 31st, @zenithmtnguides sprayed me down for the flash on his favorite route Freeway. I think it was his 70+ lap up it? 3 amazing routes with 3 awesome climbers.
It is easy to lose a bit of climbing stoke when you guide the same 5.9 routes all summer long, but special times and incredible memories with good company on routes that inspire you make everything worth it. Those times keep the stoke high until the next one.

Story time.
Zombie Roof is probably one of the most iconic single pitch lines in Squamish, BC. Back in 2021, among my Squamish climbing peers and friends, there was a massive send train on this line. I'll admit that I felt a bit of pressure to keep up with the friends on trying my bloody hardest to also send the Zombie. I think during that season I may have tried the roof about three times, but then called it quits for the time being. The next season I gave it another go or two, but never truly progressed. The theme here is that it never became a consistent project for me, but more a test to see where I was in my personal climbing journey. After my final 2022 redpoint attempt without success, I was asking my good friend why he thought I wasn't succeeding on this line where our peers who were equally as skilled had sent. His response was pretty simple and to the point... "Evan, you don't try hard enough...". That one hit me deep, and has honestly stuck in my head ever since. Over the next two years, I had put my personal climbing goals of progression on the back burner because I had to switch my focus on working through the ACMG Rock Guide Exam program. This year, with exams done, I have been climbing more for myself then I have in a very long time. I am feeling no pressure, and have found a new resurgence of stoke for trying harder then ever before. After 4 years of kind-of projecting, earlier this season I sent Zombie Roof. During this last weekend at the Arc'teryx Academy in Squamish, Michael Gardner's mother came onto the stage at the Pavilion, and said a few words about her late son that really hit hard. She was identifying the difference between "trying hard" and "giving your best". I thought I was "trying hard", which I told myself when I clipped the chains on Zombie. I now think I gave it my best that day instead. I felt so relaxed and never tense. It was the perfect climb. I believe I accidentally stumbled across truly giving my best this summer. So I might never try hard enough in life, but that's okay, my best is good enough for me.
Story done.

Just another Tuesday in Squamish.
Tried to wrestle a photographer to join for this day, but everyone had plans on the Stat Day. I ended up rigging a few cameras around hoping at least one of them would turn out a good shot. The 5 boys flew close enough to me that my phone which was recording, almost fell over because of the gust. Not sure which is more fun, scrambling up Calculas Crack, or jumping off High Plains. Two different worlds I guess.
Thanks @mrjohnnydough for fun idea and for organizing the day.
Cheers.
