We didn’t achieve our goal of becoming the first women to complete the hike & fly traverse from Antioquia to Valle del Cauca—but we made the absolute most of what the conditions gave us.
Low cloud bases, short flying windows, overdevelopment, and rain shaped every day of the journey. Day 1 started wet, but we still managed a flight from Santa Fe de Antioquia to Anzá. Day 2 brought a hike to launch above Anzá, followed by a stunning high-mountain flight to Tarso. We hoped to push farther south to Támesis, but a massive storm cloud over Jericó shut that plan down.
Day 3 was a true suffer-fest: a 4:45 a.m. start, 20 km and 1,400 m of hiking from Tarso to Jericó, a short cold flight to Palermo, then another 10 km hike into town. Day 4 began with yet another push—5 km and 800 m up to launch above Palermo—only to wait for hours as rain once again put flying south out of the picture.
The goal wasn’t achieved, but the adventure was a huge success. We squeezed every drop out of tough weather, experienced the magic of Colombia from a whole new perspective, and were constantly amazed by how willing locals were to help us find trails.
@evahenneman and I now truly know what it’s like to sweat in the same clothes for four big days 😅
The flights we *did* get were beautiful—and honestly, I’m not sure how we could’ve done more with what we were given.
Stay tuned… we’ll be back to finish it 💪✨
Thanks
@gingliders for the kit that keeps getting nicer and nicer to fly!🔥
