Upon commencement of this year’s (2026) Couture Week, the goldmine of detail regarding this McCall 1932 Evening Dress just got deeper! Sarah Sheehan contacted me about the draft I created to generate this pattern when I did not win the bid for the original in 1998. See Sarah’s exciting mystery around this design, as published in her blog, Pattern Vault in my linktr.ee. This design has become the ‘flagship’ of my brand since 2011, when I draped to draft the pattern based on the cover art I held close for so long. Upon Sarah’s presentation about the small couture house behind its design, I have re-packaged the pattern a bit and have added TWO additional sizes to the paper pattern range (with the digitals sets including these added sizes coming soon)! This is an evening dress of ‘contemporary sophistication’ with what is cited in McCall Fashion Bi-Monthly, July-August 1932, as a ‘back décolletage boldly cut out and intricately strapped’ also with ‘out and out use of contrast’, the shoulder is widened extravagantly almost as a cap sleeve via extension cut of the waist (bodice). #EvaDressPatterns #VintageMcCallPatterns #matakiato #1930s

It’s not over! Coming in on the heels of Georgian January in a 2016-to-2026 kind of way by looking back at my 2016 ‘Raven’ Georgian January. I also get to honor my little wheelchair bunny, Georgie whom I had so close at that time and dearly miss to this day. There is a behind the scenes of Georige when shooting my chair poses in the Raven getup. I had to rearrange the room and he had a front row seat to the goings-on. I sewed my paniers from Leimomi Oakes’ (The Dreamstress) Panier-Along. My Raven version was not sewn from an official Georgian source. It was sewn from my Crinoline pattern originally by DuBarry in the 1930’s. I simply have an admiration for the retro-retrospective. It’s a good time to post a new pattern today-it’s a good time to post a new pattern because Eva’s ok! Three weeks of October were lost for being in hospital with her for post-colectomy complications. You may recall my Sept. 23 post about this-it’s a new pattern now, not for Nov. 1. I’ll take it because she’s been out of the woods for several weeks now :) D30-2655; 1935 Afternoon Frock 10-piece pattern originally by Beyer’s Modenblatt, the raglan sleeve joins not unlike a contrasting shrug over an otherwise black frock with form-fitting waist and slimming waist yoke over a circular skirt. Best fabrics for this design: For Sleeve Contrast - Silk Georgette (original recommendation), Chiffon or Sheer Gauze. For the Frock - Silk Crêpe (original recommendation), Satin, Crêpe de Chine, Moiré in rayons, Celanese or Bemberg or any other fabric previously suggested. This pattern is for the more advanced sewer as instructions are very basic and lightly illustrated; they are not depicted in a step-by-step manner. 3/8” seams are given.
