Get Low for Control! #tiptimetuesday
This is an expert noseride by @Eva.levy , where she turns into a stretch-5 maneuver by getting into a low crouch position.
The low position is so useful when the wave gets steep in order to maintain control- simply, it brings our center of gravity closer to the board, which does two things: 1. Helps maintain control and balance of our body weight over the board, 2. It can actually be a speed-making motion! As we move our body into a lower crouch-like position, we push our body into the board, which in turn can create momentum on the board.
Getting low like this does require some flexibility, especially in the ankles, so doing some on-land practice can be helpful to train the body to get into the position on the board.
For the stretch 5, you can practice on land by being in a squat, and sliding one leg out into a stretch position, and then sliding it back into the squat. It’s a big hip flexor movement so it may take some training to develop the strength!
