I’m very excited to announce my next writing project: Kyoichi Tsuzuki Love Hotels
Kyoichi is a legendary Japanese photographer who draws attention to what he calls “roadside art”. The fantastical design of love hotel rooms across Japan caught his eye, and so he began to document these amazing spaces of erotic imagination. Very few of the themed OTT rooms exist today, and so his photographs serve as an important record of sexual subculture, design and an often misunderstood aspect of Japanese social history.
I came across this series a while ago and had the chance to meet Kyoichi in Tokyo last year at his museum. Straight away it became clear that these photographs needed to be published outside of Japan. Matthew at Baron took it on and we are now collaborating on what I know will be a very special book.

Sunday with my Tokyo family 🍵 This time I visited my aunt Kazuko’s pottery studio and she taught me how to make a vase. I can’t wait to see how it turns out! We then went for a big rewarding soba lunch with my aunt and uncle
I also got to see the little teacup I made with her in 2024 and all the beautiful ceramic broaches she has been making
