EUNIC Focal Points & Nordic-Baltic Cluster Meeting in Helsinki - hosted by @instituutit . 🇫🇮🇪🇺 We brought together over 40 European cultural relations professionals from cultural institutes and ministries of foreign affairs and culture, including representatives from EUNIC clusters across the Nordic and Baltic regions. We gathered at @hanaholmen.kulttuurikeskus — the perfect backdrop for meaningful exchange. As a Swedish-Finnish cultural centre with deep, lived experience of geopolitics, it stands as a powerful symbol of cooperation. 🤝 Surrounded by nature, we explored key topics shaping our work today: culture and climate action, culture and security, and responding to evolving national political contexts. We heard insights from EUNIC clusters and discussed how to strengthen collaboration in the region, with valuable contributions from @nordiskkulturkontakt and @ndpculture . Helsinki’s unique geopolitical position made it an especially relevant setting to go deeper into the links between cultural relations, security, and resilience during a panel discussion at Helsinki City Hall, featuring contributions from experts at @mfafinland , @helsinki , @ndpculture , and @turvallisuuskomitea . 💬 A sincere thank you to @instituutit for co-organising with @eunicglobal and for hosting such an inspiring meeting. 👏

Last week DutchCulture hosted fellow cultural professionals Shannon Latoyah Simon from @britishcouncil , Reem Fouad from @eunicinegypt and Christina Buck-Rieder from @ifa.de to exchange on “the project of flourishing” through decolonising institutions within the framework of @eunicglobal ‘s Mobility Scheme.🔵 Our programme started at @domo.culture , where Jacomine Hendrikse, DutchCulture’s advisor on European heritage, reflected on how Dutch institutions relate to the creative sectors of the six Caribbean islands within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. We also explored funding strategies with @princeclausfund and @cultural.emergency.response to prioritise local knowledge and reduce language barriers while staying open to feedback. Then at @wereldmuseum.amsterdam Wayne Modest reminded us that restitution is not the finish line. Decolonisation must happen in the world, not just in collections. Extraction takes both objects and knowledge. Marian Duff, Manu Drenthem Soesman and Evelyn Imafidon at @oscamonline showed how to build a transformative space rooted in community and youth voices. Julie Nederkoorn of @moviesthatmatterfestival and Phaedra Haringsma of @decorrespondent shared how solidarity bonds activist storytellers and why international support is a lifeline for those at risk, while looking over Rotterdam at Nieuwe Instituut. We finalised the programme at @moezeum , an initiation of @a_wake.world , and heard from Shirin Mirachor on how they built connections between the SWANA diaspora and Rotterdam locals through humor, food and quiet acts of resistance. Reem and Shannon were also able to attend Rewire Festival in The Hague, and visited the ‘Proximity Music — The Ongoing Hum’ exhibition. After a discursive week, the humming and ambient soundscapes spread across The Hague offered exactly the right kind of ending, one you don’t analyse but simply inhabit. 🌿 We thank our visiting colleagues once again for their contributions, spirit and open minds. #EUNICMobilityScheme #DecolonisingCulturalRelations #EUNIC #FairCollaboration

What does resilience mean for cultural relations in times of growing uncertainty, crisis and constant change? 💭 This was the question we explored with senior colleagues of EUNIC members in Prague during our Knowledge Sharing Workshop, hosted by @ceskacentra and co-led by @ifa.de . In a rapidly changing world, both on a domestic and international level, EUNIC and its members remain focused on a shared mission: sustaining international cultural exchange and strengthening democracy and open societies through our collective work. In Prague, we reflected on the evolving political landscape in Europe and beyond, exchanged perspectives on key challenges, and explored how we can respond more effectively together. 🤝 💬 “International cultural relations play a vital role in supporting freedom of art and culture and in safeguarding an open civil society. Now more than ever, stronger European collaboration is needed.” - Hanna Lämsä, Director, Finnish Cultural and Academic Institutes. On behalf of the EUNIC team, our members, and all participants, a heartfelt thank you to @ceskacentra for their hard work in hosting this important workshop. 👏

We were delighted to welcome colleagues from the European Union National Institutes for Culture to Arts Council Malta for a dynamic few days of exchange, collaboration, and discovery as part of the Mobility Scheme Malta 🇲🇹 Over three days, we hosted four guests from fellow EUNIC member organisations, sharing insights into our work, discussing cultural strategies, and exploring opportunities for future collaboration. The programme also included visits to some of Malta’s leading cultural spaces, including St John's Co Cathedral and the Malta Biennale, offering a closer look at the vibrant creative scene in Valletta and beyond. From meaningful discussions to inspiring cultural visits, this exchange highlighted the importance of international cooperation in strengthening the arts and cultural sector. We look forward to continuing these conversations and building lasting connections across the EUNIC network 🤝✨ #ArtsCouncilMalta #EUNIC #CulturalExchange #Malta #Valletta #MobilityScheme

“Communication is essential for meaningful system change.” @danishculturalinstitute and @eunicglobal brought together communications leaders from across Europe for a workshop on strategic communication for cultural relations organisations. 👏 From storytelling in complex information spaces and navigating international networks to the growing impact of AI, one thing is clear: communication is more than support, it’s strategy. 2 days, 11 cultural relations organisations, 14 colleagues, and a shared commitment to strengthening how we communicate our work. ✨ We closed our programme with a visit to an inspiring creative and civic space - @thoravej29 - that brings cultural collaboration across sectors to life. Thanks to our hosts, speakers and participants for the openness, insights and energy throughout. 🫶

If we want to build more just and prosperous societies, empowering women is essential. 👏 International Women’s Day, celebrated every year on 8 March, has been observed for over a century. It is a global day recognising the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women - and a reminder of the work still needed to advance gender equality. To mark IWD, we spoke with members of our currently all-women Board of Directors to explore the role international cultural relations play in advancing the rights, lives, and experiences of women and girls. 📷 Photos are taken from EUNIC-supported cultural relations projects around the world.
