Nutrition emergencies are on the rise in Nigeria, Cameroon and DR Congo.⁣ ⁣ Across these three countries, malnutrition levels are increasing due to conflict, displacement, food insecurity, inflation, disease and weak access to healthcare.⁣ ⁣ For Sauda, a young mother in Nigeria, this crisis became a fight for her daughter’s life. When little Rabi’atu fell sick and lost weight, Sauda feared she might not survive.⁣ ⁣ At a local health centre, she received ready-to-use therapeutic food. Earlier this year, Malawi experienced the worst cholera outbreak in Southern Africa in recent years. In response, the EU funded the setup of health stations directly in affected villages to help people on the spot — and to contain the outbreak. ⁣ ⁣ Cholera — a deadly bacterial disease — can spread rapidly during the rainy season, especially in areas with poor hygiene and where people live closely together. ⁣ ⁣ Patricia, from a small village near the city of Blantyre, where the nearest hospital is a 9-kilometre walk away, became a Malawi Red Cross volunteer because, in her words: 'My passion is to help people.'⁣ ⁣ As part of her volunteering, Patricia teaches people sanitation practices such as washing hands, covering food and cooking meals thoroughly.⁣ ⁣ 'A lot of people don’t know that cholera can be prevented with better hygiene,' she says.⁣ ⁣ Thanks to this quick EU-funded intervention, the outbreak was contained.⁣ ⁣ ⁣#EUSolidarity #EUHumanitarianAid⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣ © European Union, 2026⁣ (photographer: Peter Biro)⁣

On the ground, he is helping coordinate the EU response together with national authorities and partners, supporting those affected and ensuring operations run smoothly. Through the #EUCivilProtection Mechanism, 6 repatriation flights coordinated and operated by Spain 🇪🇸, France 🇫🇷, the Netherlands 🇳🇱, Ireland 🇮🇪 and Greece 🇬🇷 have helped bring around 70 passengers safely home. What is #Hantavirus and how is the EU responding? ⬇️⁣ ⁣ Following the Hantavirus outbreak linked to the MV Hondius cruise ship, the EU is coordinating closely with national authorities and international partners to support a swift and safe response.⁣ ⁣ Since Spain activated the #EUCivilProtection Mechanism on 6 May:⁣ 🔹 6 repatriation flights have been coordinated by the EU⁣ 🔹A medical evacuation aircraft from the EU fleet, hosted by Norway, has been pre-positioned in Tenerife⁣ 🔹An ERCC Liaison Officer is supporting coordination on the ground⁣ 🔹Experts from the EU Health Task Force were deployed on board by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control⁣ 🔹Additional transport, logistical capacity and protective equipment from the Commission’s strategic reserve were kept on stand-by and ready for deployment if needed.⁣ ⁣ The EU’s priority remains clear: protecting citizens, supporting those affected and helping countries respond together, based on the latest evidence.⁣ ⁣ Read more on our website.⁣ ⁣ ⁣#EUSolidarity⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ © European Union, 2026

Yesterday, the first high-level political dialogue between the EU and Syria took place in Brussels.⁣ ⁣ The EU has stood with the Syrian people throughout the past 14 years, supporting efforts toward a political solution and leading international financial and humanitarian assistance.⁣ ⁣ As a leading donor, the EU and its Member States have provided sustained humanitarian support since the beginning of the crisis and remain committed to assisting the most vulnerable at this critical moment in Syria’s history.⁣ ⁣ In the Jobar neighbourhood of East Damascus – one of the areas most devastated by the conflict – the impact of the destruction remains visible.
