Sup, witches! @chefholliefraser is an award-winning baker, 3-time winner of Food Network’s Halloween Baking Championship, and the owner of Burnaby’s naughtiest sweet shop @punkrockpastries .
Her and @lizkalles sat down to chat their obsession with spooky season, being on television, Yelp reviews, and more.

Last Call is my baby. Like Chef Hollie Fraser’s business, @punkrockpastries , it is a product of working hard and putting your passion to “paper” for other people to experience.
This is an incredibly vulnerable and courageous thing to do. During a time in the world where things feel so divided, it can also feel overwhelming to know how to help. Supporting your local small businesses is a great way to feel connected to your community.
Hollie is a Canadian small business owner and can confirm - a gem of a human. If you’re in need of cakes, cookies, cupcakes, and all sorts of tasty treats, head on over to the link in my bio to support her. Check out the other link in my bio for the full Last Call episode to support me. 🫶🏻🫶🏻

@chefholliefraser is a two-time Food Network champion, master baker, and all around gem of a human being.
@lizkalles caught up with Hollie at @punkrockpastries to chat about her award-winning bakery, her appearance on the Halloween Baking Championship, and how her naughty cookies have turned heads.

11 years ago @guyfelicellapublic overdosed for the sixth and final time. His body became stiff, he wasn’t breathing, and he had been unconscious for nearly 8 minutes. The odds of him coming back were dropping by the second.
Sara Gill was one of the nurses working at the supervised consumption site that day and was providing aid to Guy during those crucial moments. She recalls when he finally came to - he was disoriented at first, then flooded with emotion as he processed what had transpired.
Flash forward to today, Guy is an international public speaker, a Peer Clinical Advisor with @vchhealthcare , and has three children with his wife Breanne and over a decade of sobriety under his belt.
His focus now lies in advocating for those who suffer with addiction and is adamant about eliminating the stigma that exists around drug addiction.
This clip is taken from @ethno.official ’s upcoming short-documentary centered around Guy’s personal journey through trauma, addiction, and recovery.
Guy’s message is simple. “People do recover.”
Produced by @arkaviscreative with the support of @jhog_invitational .

I had the pleasure of chatting with @kontar_81 a while back. Also known as “The Man at the Airport,” Hassan was a former Syrian refugee whose story garnered worldwide attention when he was left stateless, and stranded at a Malaysian airport for 8 months after exiling from his home country of Syria in 2011.
His book, “Man at the Airport,” (link in my bio) details his challenging journey from Syria to Canada. It’s a great read. His writing has a way of making you laugh and cry all in the span of one page.
Hassan has a fascinating story - one that gives some insight into what it’s like to risk everything you have for a shot at a life with more opportunity.

“These people did nothing wrong except be born on the wrong side of the world.”
Hassan Al Kontar was a former Syrian refugee who had exiled from his home country after refusing to join the military in 2011. He made international headlines in 2018 after chronicling his experience being stuck in Kuala Lumpur International airport for seven months after his passport was revoked and he was left stateless.
Also known as “The Man at the Airport” - of which his self-written book is titled - @dylan_wolfe sat down with Hassan to discuss his life, his journey as a refugee, and his experience being stranded at the airport and his subsequent time in jail. They also discuss the current state of global immigration and some of the prevailing cultural attitudes towards refugees in general.

“This industry can be tough. I’ve worked in hospitality for about ten years now and I have felt like people look at me like I’m just a general shade of server. Sometimes it feels like they don’t even know what colour shirt I have on - even though they’ve been sitting in front of me for hours.
I don’t stand alone in that feeling, not just within the hospitality industry, but it feels like most people out there feel invisible, undervalued, and unseen in who they really are. I’m here to help lift the veils we wear and show the world how people truly feel.”

Under the glow of Vancouver’s nightlife, the streets teem with people, each one with their own story - their own journey.
Vancouver has often been touted as a “no fun city” - her own inhabitants often apathetic to what she really has to offer.
Yet we still sit at tables, at bars, comfortable with those we know. What about those we don’t?
Host Liz Kalles is here to show you them.
“Last Call” - a new series by ethno. Coming soon.

“There’s all this science and evidence and information linking childhood suffering to addiction later on, and most treatment professionals are completely oblivious to it. But it’s not their fault. It’s systemic, the schools don’t teach them.”
@gabormatemd discusses addiction, trauma, and recovery with his former patient @guyfelicellapublic . Full video on our YouTube channel - link in bio.
