Salam everyone! On Thursday May 14th we're throwing the third edition of Zoorkhooneh, a swana-centered DJ open decks at @boyfriendcoop in Brooklyn. Whether you have no experience at all and have an interest in DJing or have DJed for years, or if you'd like to just hang out, this event is open to all. Come out to support your friends and meet new people too! The space is large enough with a dance floor that's relatively separated from the main bar area.
Set times will be about 30 minutes long. Entry to DJ is $15 minimum donation to one of the three suggested charities, which will be confirmed before you DJ.
Charities to donate to:
Afghans for a Better Tomorrow - /
Haven for Artists (Based in Beirut, Lebanon) -
Children of Persia - /
Your hosts for the night include:
@_yas111_@dj_lala___@__hal__wa@ethincallyomar@djlilbuddy
If you are hesitant and have zero knowledge or experience, feel free to come anyway! Bring a USB that has mp3s and playlists imported from the Rekordbox app on Mac (). Ideally around 1 or 2 hours worth of music is a good start. We can get you started and acquainted with the DJ equipment relatively quickly.
Khosh begzare!
/p/DRFKkN8DiVq/ - There's always room for more DJs!
Salam everyone, I hope you and your families are doing okay. With so much happening in Iran, this moment feels especially heavy for all of us.
This Friday, 3/20, I’ll be hosting an early Nowruz celebration at @no9nyc in Williamsburg from 6 PM - 9 PM. Entry is RSVP and suggested donation to @momsagainstpoverty .
The lineup includes:
@s.c.k@maxkulchinsky@ethnicallyomar@djlilbuddy
Together, we’ll be playing sounds from the vatan alongside the sounds of NYC’s nightclubs.
This gathering is about music, community, and being together in a moment that feels especially important. It’s going to be unlike any other Vatan Express, and I can’t wait to share it with you ❤️
🪻Happy Nowruz🪻
Salam everyone, zende bashi, I hope you and your families are doing well during these difficult times.
Next Thursday 3/19 will be the second edition of Zoorkhooneh, a swana-centric DJ open decks. Whether you have no experience at all and have an interest in DJing or have DJed for years, or if you'd like to just hang out, this event is open to all.
Set times will be about 15 minutes long. Entry is a suggested donation towards Moms Against Poverty (/), which is a charity that is legally allowed to send funds and aid to Iran to those in need. This is especially terrible timing as Nowruz and Eid are normally a celebratory time for Iran, Afghanistan, and its neighbors. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.
Other charities to consider donating to:
Afghans for a Better Tomorrow (/afghansforabettertomorrow/)
Heal Palestine (/heal.palestine/)

Our sister event, Hye Frequency: RESET, will be happening right after in the same venue at 10 PM - 3 AM. RSVP for both through resident advisor is greatly appreciated as it helps the organizers, the DJs, and the venue with it's analytics: https://ra.co/events/2369651
DJ lineup for Hye Frequency:
Babagamoush
MARI
DJ Vahshi
Teeyam
Zara Dekho
I've considered multiple times to cancel this event, but I think it's better to make events where we all can gather than to just stay alone in the dark. We all need space to grieve, experience joy, and most importantly, continue to present ourselves to the world as humans that exist outside the context of political conflicts in the news. In moments like this I always refer to DJ Nanoos's post:

Khosh begzare, happy nowruz + eid, and above all, peace ✌️
2 years later seems like the right time to post these photos. 2 years of marriage, and 10 years of growing up with my best friend.
I've said it before but I'll say it again - living in a world of your imagination is so freeing. I can't imagine living any other way for the rest of my life. Happy anniversary to my forever love, Omar.
If I didn't make it into your year end photo dump, let me know so I can take you out of mine, thanks. The next QGTF show is Sun Jan 11 at 7pm. Get your tickets at the usual spot.
Earlier this month, I got to visit Chicago for a satire writing workshop with @theonion and @daffestnyc
I'm grateful for learning new things and meeting so many funny people. For the briefest moment, I thought "yo I might be good at this funny thing." So I'll keep doing it.
Also I saw snowy bean.
