Super excited about this month’s “Focus”. Not only am I highlighting an incredibly crafted album, I’ll also be joined by moondog affiliate and tastemaker,
@maxkulchinsky on the decks all night.
“Discovery” by Daft Punk isn’t just an album, it’s a neon-lit time capsule of pure joy. Released in 2001, it trades the grit of their earlier sound for glossy synths, funky basslines, and unforgettable hooks. From the euphoric lift of “One More Time” to the dreamy nostalgia of “Digital Love,” every track feels like a late-night drive through a futuristic city.
It arrived at the peak of the French house wave - a movement driven by artists like Cassius, Stardust, and Étienne de Crécy, who were flipping disco samples into shimmering, filter-heavy grooves. While that scene was rooted in underground club culture, Daft Punk pushed it into something bigger with “Discovery”, more melodic, more emotional, and unapologetically pop.
The result is an album that bridges eras born from the clubs of Paris, but destined for global, cross-generational replay. Dance music with heart, soul, and a sense of wonder that still hits decades later.

Focus, presented by benyc, is a monthly listening event built around one album, played all the way through on a proper sound system. It’s not a silent room, it’s a shared experience. Good energy, real reactions, and music loud enough to feel.
Each month we highlight a record that deserves to be heard front to back, the kind that hits harder when the room is moving with it.
Come hang, tap in, and experience an album the way it was meant to be played.
