How do you translate the feeling of a ‘dystopian rave’ into choreography? 
In our new ‘Dissecting Dance’ video, choreographer @ethancolangelo and NDT 2 dancer @joeygertin explore the ideas behind Colangelo’s latest work, ‘entropy’. Together, they deconstruct a solo that moves between ‘implosive tightness’ and moments of ‘meditative breath’, revealing how abstract ideas transform into powerful, physical movement. ‘entropy’ is Ethan Colangelo’s first creation for NDT, inspired by the idea of escapism. Colangelo creates a dystopian atmosphere on stage, where dancers navigate contrasting states: anxiety and euphoria, autonomy and surrender, meditation and chaos, slowness and speed, resulting in a work that draws you into a hypnotic world.   Part of NDT 2’s programme ‘The Edge of Things’. The programme is currently touring across the Netherlands until 8 November. On 27 and 28 December, you can also experience it worldwide via NDT Digital Theatre.   Choreography: @ethancolangelo

This is the first glimpse of a brand new creation by choreographer @ethancolangelo , an exciting new voice to NDT. Over the past weeks, he has been in the studio with NDT 2 creating his first work for the company. The world premiere will take place on 25 September at Amare, The Hague, before touring theatres across the Netherlands. ICD PROGRAM 25/26 ✨ Ethan Colangelo is an alumni of The Juilliard School where he received the Hector Zaraspe Prize for Choreographic Promise. He is currently the Associate Choreographer for the National Ballet of Canada as of July 2023. Most recently, he has created new works for Ballet BC, BODYTRAFFIC, Whim W’Him Contemporary Dance, Ballet Edmonton, Orsolina28, The National Ballet of Canada and will be creating a new work for NDT2 this fall. Colangelo was also one of nine choreographers selected worldwide for the Copenhagen International Choreography Competition in 2018 and 2021. Colangelo has also taught and made new creations for educational institutions such as The Juilliard School, The Ailey School, Arts Umbrella Dance Company, Springboard Danse Montréal, Nuova X, DAF in Rome and MOVE NYC.
