I wrote eight pieces for solo alto saxophone and looping pedal that combine improvisation, ambient soundscape, counterpoint, and virtuosity. This is music about earth, which we were told sits securely beneath our feet and grounds our experience of the world. Yet it shifts, flows, disappears, changes color, diverges into many paths, and appears to repeat itself. Dreamscapes.
The music was recorded by the wonderful team of Brandon Unpingco and Alessio Romano at Studio42 in Brooklyn (they also filmed and edited the videos I’ve been posting). Sam Minaie provided clarity and ambience through mixing and mastering. The album artwork is taken from Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji by Hokusai.
