Best things in 2024 on a personal level π
Moved into pmq with creative neighbours, grateful to be back in my childhood neighbourhood. Ball bearing bench, bubbly lamp, finally have the space to display them and to test the problems. A lot of awards and ceremonies, thanks to dip's support. Trips blend work and leisure together. 3 books signed, thomas heatherwick, sophia hotung, koon wee, sort of in different fields but all have great impact on me, grateful for their work existing in this world. Our 'largest project' is finally progressing while the other smaller ones are going well. Visited many interesting exhibitions and seen many many cool architecture from all eras. To watch my first david boring show and a magic show. To meet people whom I enjoy working with so much. Grateful to everyone who have helped along the way. Family front, I am going to be an aunt! Francis ate the best crab he tried so far in life. Two family trips in one year!

Excellent weather for this little break between the Year of Rabbit and the Year of Dragon. The Year of Rabbit has been a super busy year for @canalside.studio and I believe Dragon Year will be an even better one! So before work resumes, lets revisit my artistic pursuit and revisit my shiny blue paper exercise, paying tribute to Matisse cut-outs as well as this excellent weather!

A playful floor lamp with detachable bulbs

Bubbly Lamp is a floor lamp with five detachable bulbs on top. With its height of 95cm, it is also kids-friendly. The bulbs can be taken to anywhere where additional lighting is needed (e.g. balconies or terraces) or be scattered around a room to create a cozy atmosphere. The bulb can be attached to any metal surface on its own or to any magnetic laminate surface that is widely used these days. We hope the toy-like yet elegant floor lamp will be a special addition to homes of any kind.
The Bubbly Lamp has won the Hong Kong Smart Design Award 2021, both Bronze and Green Awards in the Conceptual Group and the Golden Pin Design Award 2021 in Taiwan.

The entrance area takes inspiration from prison visit where visitors and prisoners are required to talk through phones. The visitor kiosk acts as a fixture/ screen to block direct view into the interior and helps transfer customers from the outside Tai Kwun museum vibe to a speakeasy as if it is situated underground.

Finally its open!
This is a project that our studio @canalside.studio have been working on for a long time and something that we are finally happy to share. The space expresses the client's heritage (being the first speakeasy bar in Hong Kong) @001.hk as well as Tai Kwun's heritage @taikwun.hk at the same time.

This model was part of a proposal that we have submitted to Hong Kong Tourism Board 2 years ago. The project is called 'Cone of Radiance' and was submitted for 2020 Hong Kong Light Festival which was unfortunately cancelled last-minute due to COVID-19. We hope that with the 'Hello Hong Kong' campaign organised by the Hong Kong government this year, we would have an opportunity to bring this to life again!
