I haven’t said thank you to 2018 yet. A lot of me was trying to move on from it as quickly as possible, because it was a hard one for me. Having said that, a lot of amazing things came out of it, too. This was one (if not) the greatest moments of my year, and I am very very proud of it. No, it’s not perfect. Perfection isn’t the most important thing to strive for - GROWTH IS. I will never forget this feeling - it is one I’ve been chasing since I was a little, passionate child. Almost a year ago @themichaele_photography graciously spent time in the studio capturing things that have been going through my brain. I’m finally getting around to sharing 🙈 Scary and fun!
I’ve been incredibly fortunate to be a sponge to many different Trail Blazers that have come before me. I have started being brave enough to translate their effect on me into feelings via steps. I love that there are no rules around it. And though I can’t call myself a choreographer yet, I absolutely love using what I know and letting the music tell me what to do.
Sharing knowledge with other dancers in a room, learning with and from each other - there’s just nothing like it. I understand why my mom loved being a teacher. And man, I just LOVE dancers. Give them a canvas and they make their own tapestry. Give them each the same steps, and watch them bring themselves to it. @westonkrukow coming in with percussive dynamics and power. @leighesty bringing her feminine energy and graceful spice. To step back and watch everyone interpret it their own way is MY FAVORITE.

Story time - April 1, 2017. The first national tour of An American in Paris was in LA. I was playing Lise Dassin, in a company of many incredible artists I now call family. It was a 2 show day, and at half hour of the evening show, we suddenly found ourselves down two Jerry’s. The only one left was none other than @bartonc . Nobody believed me as I ran around excitedly shouting the news - it was April fools day, after all. 😂 We had never done any of the material with each other, but very quickly found our Jerry and Lise in the wings of the Pantages. The show was epic, and I’ll never forget the pride of watching my teammate excel so highly.

So here we are, on the eve of 9 years to the day, getting to open an off broadway show together and live out this pas officially - AND with our other AAIP tour alumni @b_zelez and @thedeannadoyle !! Life is wild and crazy and magical. I’m asking no questions as to why or how. Just want to thank you, @gottadanceshow ! (Swipe to see younger Sara and Barton. 🥰)
