“IDA [...] is one of those films which appeared this year which raises hopes for new handwritings in South Eastern European cinema: rooted in a past which it explores and reflects in a very personal way but with a contemporary mindset, it shows the every-day issues of a teenage girl in a rural region between tradition and politics, longing and revolt, belonging and biographical breaks. A film about feeling home and the wish to leave that home at the same time, rooted in magic realism, personal observation and speed-dated modern cinema language at the same time. A cinematic vision which stands for something new.”

"An authentic story, filmed close to the protagonists, with the protagonists. The subject of misuse of power within ecclesiastical environment is nothing new on the screen, but the way it is described here deserves respect. All of sudden, the spectator becomes a part of those dirty games played in this wonderful mountain location – and the main protagonist tries to save his own life, but also the dignity of his group. A protagonist between the chairs, a real psychological, observational thriller which is based on real events."
