A group of Master’s students recently travelled to Indonesia for their Social Impact Project, where they had the opportunity to work alongside Inspire Indonesia and witness firsthand how sport can become a powerful tool for social change.
Through their Pledge United program, @inspire.indonesia works with teenage boys, using the sport they love as an entry point to teach respect, equality, and why standing up for women matters.
“Seeing this up close completely shifted how we think about social impact.” shared the team.
Beyond learning from Inspire Indonesia’s approach, the students also contributed by supporting operational processes and helping strengthen the organisation’s visibility, so their impact can reach even more communities.

"For our Social Impact Project at ESMT Berlin, we partnered with Birds Korea, a small but dynamic NGO at the forefront of conservation, data collection, and advocacy.
What really stood out to us is how interconnected their work is far beyond birds, it’s about preserving entire ecosystems and supporting long-term environmental balance.
We focused on helping them amplify their impact like strengthening digital visibility, improving volunteer engagement, and ensuring their vital research reaches a wider audience.
Spending 10 days in South Korea, walking wetlands and key migratory routes like the Imjin River brought everything to life. It gave us a much deeper understanding of both the urgency of their mission and the reality of working as a small, mission-driven organization.
It was a deeply meaningful journey. We saw firsthand how these small but powerful steps can ripple out to protect a much bigger, shared future! 🌏"

As part of ESMT Berlin’s Social Impact Project, Bori, Yuling, and Sisy, Master in Global Management students, partnered with the Turtle Conservation Society of Malaysia (@tcsmalaysia )— an organization dedicated to protecting endangered river turtles through hands-on conservation, education, and community engagement. 🐢
Their main mission was to help translate their experience-based, day-to-day operations into clear and structured processes and policies, supporting greater consistency and long-term sustainability.
💬 Bori shares: "What stuck with me most was seeing how much care and effort goes into everything they do. Being part of that, even briefly, was both inspiring and eye-opening. I am grateful for this opportunity to broaden my perspective on how we could use our skills to create real impact."

Alongside @gerhubmongolia , an NGO dedicated to empowering local communities as innovators, the project focused on scaling a community-based tourism initiative into a sustainable, investment-ready model.
“We came to help GerHub NGO scale their community-based tourism initiative. We left with sunburns from the Gobi, blisters from riding Mongolian horses and camels, and a set of deliverables that turned a grant-dependent NGO into an investment-ready social enterprise."
Sometimes the best business school lessons don't happen in a classroom.
